Hi everyone! I have a 2023 Maverick Lariat w/ Lux and 360+ packages (fully loaded and I love it so far!). I recently had a rock hit my windshield on the highway and it caused a large crack to form. I just had the windshield replaced yesterday by a local company that does all the windshield replacements for my local Ford dealership. They used the OEM Ford acoustic glass w/ heated wiper elements and it looks like they did a great job. However, when I picked up my truck and asked if they had calibrated the sensors to the new windshield they told me that no, they didn't. They said that since they replaced the original windshield with an identical Ford OEM windshield that calibration wasn't needed. Is this true? Is calibration really not needed in this instance? If it's not needed that's great, but I just want to make sure they aren't cheaping out on something that may cause me issues in the future. I use the adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist all the time so I just want to make sure there won't be any issues.

I had mine replaced last week and they said they would need to do the calibration either way, OEM or aftermarket.

This is probably a "better safe than sorry" maneuver. I'm willing to bet this is not the first windshield setup they have done like this, but since they are being sourced from the dealership they should probably do it the way the manual specifies to cover their asses. If something were to happen, like a sensor constantly being tripped and applying brakes, they would be liable. I'm not a windshield expert, but my assumption is that any small change made would warrant a quick recalibration.

seems that the lane centering would be the most effected. easy enough to check though

I had mine replaced with oem glass about 2 months ago in a 2022 XL. The installer mentioned he had no way of knowing if it would need calibration (at an additional cost) until after the install and driving the car.

I have not had any warnings or codes come up because of the replacement yet.

Yes calibrate, there may be a (sensor) gel pad that should be replaced as well

Had my 22 Lariat windshield replaced 6 months ago after being hit by 2 Rocks within 3 days. Safegard recalibrated it as part of the installation. Many cars (not just Ford) need this as part if a replacement. In my opinion if the sensor needs recalibration as part of a correct glass install it should be included in the quote. Its like getting new tires but getting charged more to put the correct pressure in the tires.

Safelite replaced my windscreen a few weeks ago and did a calibration, they went so far as to include it in the repair documentation, so I’m surprised yours didn’t.

Honestly the article at top is too generic- it talks about sensors and other factors, IMO since it's "only one camera" I would guess it's unlikely a new windshield will change anything.

But I'd ask the dealer to follow any procedures outlined, if there are any.

Had mine replaced by Safelite, calibrated at no extra cost. I'd venture to say it needs calibration.

I've never had to have one replaced but based on a google search this popped up
https://www.caliber.com/shop-talk/car-calibration-after-windshield-replacement

IMO, makes sense that it should be recalibrated. Hopefully some with more knowledge than I will chime in.
Had a small stone chip in my 22, same model as yours. Called Satellite, they came out an tried to fill it. Three days later a crack developed, called Satellite again and they came out to my house , again, and replaced the windshield, Lariat, recalibrated. All covered under my auto insurance! Great job and service!
