So I done broke her. Was off roading and hit something. Further inspection showed coolant run out of radiator. Was able to drive off had plenty of water to fill her hip. Never over heated. Problem is I’ve disassembled as far as I could go. Now I’m trying to figure out how radiator separates from the inter cooler and air charger. Help would be appreciated but I could be on my own here
Moral of the story ( don’t off road in an XL)

Do you have to unbolt the top or bottom of the core support to remove it?

Sorry hope you get the radiator out. Check out the intercooler upgrade threads some of them have alot of pictures of the front end disassembled. Time to fabricate a skid plate.

lol yes it actually did. Got a replacement no problem. Was a fairly easy install. The replacement is twice the size as the stock. So that’s a plus. I would like a better intercooler. What’s weird is I wanted to just go ahead and install the tow package, with the upgraded fan and everything, but that’s not an available part or upgrade from ford. Really weird what you can and cannot get. The skid plate is going to be tricky. The factory ones mount on the tow hooks which are welded to the frame from what I understand. So that’s going to be an interesting deal.

A Ford tech from my mechanic alliance group on Fb sent me the factory repair document. It’s actually pretty easy. They manual said to remove the core support. It definitely made it easier but I’m sure you could do it with out removing it. If you’re really careful. The only annoying parts is that you have to remove the a/c compressor and drain the refrigerants. And no you cannot use cheap 134a it will not hold. It takes the new 1234 refrigerants and is super expensive!!!
But you have to take these lines and compressor off for two reasons. The charged air cooler the radiator and the condenser are all clipped together as one unit. There is no seperating them while installed. You may be able to get it out with out removing the compressor but you will never get the new radiator back in because you will put holes in it due to the fact the return and intake lines on the compressor stick out in a way that will destroy it. Pretty obnoxious but it’s a $400 fix/ upgrade including the coolant and refrigerants. The damn radiator cost $300 by itself
