From my understanding, there's nothing wrong with exceeding the oil change interval of 3 months if you don't drive much. For instance, I've been told about a year between oil changes is fun if you're only driving a few thousand miles in that time.

Our explorer was scheduled for an oil change last October, but it's only been driven 2,000 miles or so since then.
Same here. I’ll need to change mine by time not mileage. I’ll probably be around 2,600 miles at 12 months. And the motor actually running for only about 1,300 miles. Seems like the oil should still be fine with so few miles, but they say to change it at 12 months so I will.

Hey guys, just got a 2024 maverick xl hybrid. love it so far, very smooth ride and great gas mileage. My question is about the "break in". Is there anything other than oil I should change around 1000 miles? The first maintenance in the app says at 10k which seems like a long time. Is there a good reason I should get the dealer to do it as opposed to doing it myself?

Thank, Colin
I have had my 2023 Hybrid since February 23. Did first oil change 1500miles myself, had dealer do second at 6900 miles for ridicules price of $130, did my self at 11900 and just had it done Carx today at 16250. Walmart has Mobile One 0W-20 full synthetic Hybrid for $25 and filter Motorcraft FL-910S cost less than $8 on amazon. Oil change is easy to do the only pain is 15 screws holding the under cover on.

log the service into your Ford account, & keep receipts.
Scan your oil/filter receipts and enter them in your Ford account records. Also note in your account it
s a DIY oil change.

Do initial break-in change when you want to. I did mine ~2k miles on the ODOMETER. Remember, your gasoline engine runs a whole lot less than a non-Hybrid, so there's that.

After initial oil/filter break-in change, let the Oil Life Monitor tell you when to do the next change. Reset it using the steering wheel controls OK button after the change.

Drive conservatively and keep it under 70mph the first 1k miles.

Just trying to have a conversation about it, as I am new to the forum.

Edit: Also my first NEW vehicle

The computer will notify you when the oil change year is up. My 2022 hybrid XLT/LUX did. It appears that the "remaining % oil life displayed" will be adjusted percentage wise based not only on miles driven (possibly also by hours ice is actually running), but also on calendar days remaining in that year. I did not ever look at remaining oil life but did get the pop up 15% oil life screen around 30-45 days before my year was up (had embarrassingly few miles on my maverick at the time).
EDIT to add: it would be interesting to have a monthly "remaining oil life" at X miles recorded.

Does anyone have free oil changes from the Ford Dealer?
Just got our 2500 mile free one, and have two more at 10 and 20 thousand.

There is no break-in maintenance required.

My Ford dealership offered me one free oil change. Don't think I will bother using it. I only drive about 5-6k a year so a yearly oil change will work for me. I do all my fluid changes, not too difficult to do. I'm 71 and had a heart attack last year so the family is busting my chops a bit but I'm still kickin' lol

You got me by a year, I will be 71 in Sept.
I use (sold to buy Mav.) to do all my oil changes on our Conversion Van, (sold it with 250,000)miles, we put 210,000 miles in the seat!!
I don't miss doing oil changes at all!!!!

It's pretty common to see new threads get started on the forum, but do yourself a favor and browse the maintenance sections. Take your time, no rush, and welcome to the forums! Lots of info on here and lots of threads with how-to's.

Make sure Brake Coach is also enabled. It only appears when you come to a complete stop, like at a red light, etc. then goes away.

100% braking means all your gradual slow down/stop in that complete stop was done by regenerative braking - IOW, the energy to stop all came by generating power to charge the HV battery - no wasted heat or wear on the brake pads using Friction braking.

90% would mean most of the stop was done with charging and 10% wasted by using the brake pads.

The Brake Coach can help you improve mileage by anticipating stops ahead. And you'll quickly realize why you can get ~100-200K miles out of a set of brake pads on a Hybrid.
