Well good for you! My first new car was a 1978 Mustang ll. This hybrid makes almost all us of new first timers. I first read the manual,then use this forum to ask questions/get new information. Make sure all recalls are taken care. I've had no problems with my 2022 Lariat,but still learning and getting more comfortable with the hybrid idea.
This. I have been changing my own oil going on 40 years, even when it was cheaper/quicker to have someone else do it. I have screwed up things that cost me money, and I have made messes that the EPA would probably frown upon - but I learned from those mistakes every single time. Maybe even more importantly, it got me up close and personal with the vehicle. Every time you get under the truck, it's an opportunity to catch a leak or see something out of place.
One thing to remember with Maverick hybrids is that about 50% of your miles are electric. It will vary depending on where you drive, and how you drive. Mine runs very close to 50%.
1000 miles is too soon. Learn to look at your trip summary showing the miles in blue that were all-electric. That means the ICE wasn't running which is what you want - max miles all-electric. If, in a 10 mile trip, 4.6 miles are all-electric, your ICE ran 54% of the time. Using this example, at 1k miles, your ICE has 540 miles on it.
Thank you, I'll keep in mind to drive light for the first while. I generally don't drive very fast anyway, or accelerate hard. Reading from other threads I came to the conclusion that I should change at 1000 miles but maybe change that to 2000 from what people have said on this thread. After the initial oil change I'll probably just listen to the computer onboard.
From my understanding, there's nothing wrong with exceeding the oil change interval of 3 months if you don't drive much. For instance, I've been told about a year between oil changes is fun if you're only driving a few thousand miles in that time.
