UPDATE:

Ok, my final verdict on the Borla Type 3 clamp-on catback exhaust I installed: Thumbs Up! (with a modification)

Alone it was WAY too loud & droned painfully at most rpm’s. Two neighbors politely made note - so I can only imagine the chagrin of the other dozen neighbors who did not confront me.

So I clamped on an additional small resonator/muffler and now it sound wonderful. Deep & low pitched not raspy LOUD. I can now hear the blaring radios of other drivers as I accelerate from a stop again. Traffic sounds are now audible & I can hear my fake engine sounds again yay:)

The 5in wide/22in long Magnaflow muffler was too long to fit on the Borla - so I used a smaller one found on Amazon. Pic below:

ORIGINAL POST:

Unboxed my Borla today. Check out the tiny “Polyphonic Harmonizer” muffler & sweet chromed black tips:)

I’ve watched dozens of Borla Type 3 truck install vids - but none have the shape of the Maverick’s. Weighs 16.6lbs.

I’ll bump thread when I remove & weigh the OEM - along with a sound clip of the beastly 2.0 straight piped.

Lastly, I’ll post a sound clip of the Borla after I finish install.

The intestinal shape of the “muffler” should give me melodious fart sounds!

I'm interested in how loud this exhaust kit is.

I live in a town with many V8 Trucks with aftermarket exhaust. Also many V8 Mustangs with upgraded exhaust systems. They all sound wonderful!

Occasionally, however, I’m behind a 4 banger EB Mustang with an aftermarket exhaust. They sound embarrassingly feeble & farty in comparison to all the V8 trucks & cars.

I am a bit concerned about an embarrassing sound from my Maverick. I do embarrass easy.

My backup plan would be to have a muffler shop weld in MagnaFlow muffler where the Borla “muffler” is. A $180 muffler that has received high praise by a couple of forum members & soundclips on YouTube confirm.

Anyway, going to install next week & hear 👂

$799 for the Tremor/Lobo version, $739 for the other models. I’m guessing the difference is the bends around the rear differential. Not too unreasonable for top quality stuff.

Borla makes the Ford Performance Exhaust for the Maverick with a more traditional muffler but for $1200+. I was interested in that, but too expensive - so my Ford Parts guy suggested the Borla.

I bought it from Ford to save shipping - but did not get any “reward points” for future stuff here in the USA.

Having mixed and matched exhaust parts on different vehicles in the past, I would advise against that. Each manufacturer seems to use a slightly different steel, and when you put them together electrolytic differences mean they rot out real fast.

So, is this installed yet?
Lets see/hear it!

I have an MRT Sport Touring on the way, and I'm excited!

I really liked the sound from outside, of the up-shifts during this "spirited driving" clip.
But, yet it could still stealthily 'drive-by' if you're chill about it.

I wanted the straight piped (No muffler) option, but want to be able to stealth around when needed..

Maybe I just need an electronically actuated exhaust valve now, installed before the muffler, to open and bypass the muffler and dump under the bed. Turn on the bypass valve remotely for noisy canyon smashing and hill climb mode? ;)

Thinking of taking one last drive & recording cabin sound. Then back up into garage for a tomorrow or Monday install. Weather has cooled down - only low 90’s next couple days. Will post a cold start high idle after it sits overnight.

MRT is a forum sponsor I think - should have chosen them! The MRT sound clips are great. Borla was recommended by my Ford service/parts guy…I expect to like it also.

Borla will be good.
I almost spent the $1k+ for a Ford Performance (Borla) exhaust on my Focus ST. But then Covid happened and derped up all the supply and costs.

But a ~$50 MRT resonator delete with stock muffler got me 'close enough' for a lot less $$$. Especially after the stock muffler reached 75k+ miles and packing got burnt out a bit due to the resonator delete. I actually quite enjoyed the sound, while still being Daily-driver friendly and remaining stealthy, ie not draw unwanted attention.

MRT had a sale recently, and it was enough of a discount to convince me to pull the trigger on an exhaust mod.

I was thinking about a Muffler only, and did some research there, but still didn't get the sound I was after by what I heard here.

Finished the install of the Borla Type 3 catback today - and the days of hearing “fake engine” sounds are over. Delete the muffler = real engine sounds take over.

I drive in silence (no radio etc) and have enjoyed the “piped in” engine sound. I drive almost entirely in manual mode using the paddles. The cool fake engine sounds I heard were not the sounds the folks outside heard. They heard the quiet regular muffled Maverick.

No longer. Both me & the folks outside hear the “Polyphonic Harmonizer”. It is like my private fake engine noise is now on external bed mounted speakers.

I’ve only done a short couple miles of traffic lights so far. This setup may be too aggressive sounding for shy little me. I’m taking a long twisty turny ride tomorrow out in the sticks - I’ll see how that goes!

What's the "~$50 MRT resonator delete" you're saying... ?!

FYI - I just sent this note to Borla on their website feedback/question page.

“I recently purchased part# 140948BC for my 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo. Jim Click Ford, my local Ford dealer, recommended, ordered, and delivered to me for installation.
Upon installation, I noticed that the product did not match the pictures or instructions. I called Ryan in CS and he asked me to send pictures. Emails did not go through.

Anyway, I figured out the additional cut required & installed.

My test drive was horrendous. Incredible cabin drone that caused my dash to rattle & my ears to hurt. Exterior sound was echoing off my neighbors houses at low rpm’s. Giving it the beans was scary explosive.

Took my truck to the local high performance muffler shop where they were surprised that Borla let this product ship! Anyway, I’m having them remove the polyphonic bit & replace with a Magnaflow muffler…

I need to hear this.
Have anything more than that 1 second clip?
Hows it compare to straight piped, no muffler? Probably didn't get to drive it that way?

What was this 2nd cut? Did you have to shorten something?

Do you have any previous experiences with perf exhausts on a 4 cyl?

Is that polyphonic doo-dad suppose to be used in conjunction with resonator or muffler?
I've never heard of it before, researching some now.

What Magnaflow did you get with?

Edit:

That sounds like it'll be loud, just by the startup idle. And the couple revs at the start. :D And according to they 'Sound' definition:
Ford Maverick Borla Type 3 Catback installed 1758493813782-pt

And under a WOT accel its loud.
The video isn't great, and needs more clips..in more scenarios. and some interior recordings.
I can't find many more examples of the Borla on a Maverick.

Pretty bold of them to "Guarantee No Drone" imo..
Its an interesting idea, and probably a big weight saver, especially if it has no 'packing' to burn out, it probably has some long term benefits.
