One thing I have always wondered is why American automobile companies don't program in a chime or audible notice to work with your Blind spot alerts. You get the light, in the side view mirrors notification or blinking lights when the turn signal is engaged when there is something in the blind spot but NO audible signal. I have a Mercedes E350 that has the audible alert and it's a Godsend and one more measure of protection for the driver. If someone doesn't like it then allow programming to turn off the audible alert but it would help so much more if it was available.

You have the ability to activate a chime or sound with other functions, why not the blind spot warning system?

Sensory overload. It is real. When I am about to move over, I am looking into my side mirrors. The yellow warning light is welcome and useful. A chime everytime someone passes by me would not be.
I do find the audible warning when someone comes into your blind zone when backing up to be useful however.

I think the chimes would only activate when both the blind spot is occupied AND the turn signal is used. At least that's how it worked in a Hyundai I recently drove.

To me, that sort of chime is 100% welcome and appreciated. In just the right (wrong?) lighting, it can be easy to miss the illuminated light on the mirror.

Wife's Subie has the chime when you go out of the lane. Can be annoying. The Mav vibrates the steering wheel. Would be nice to have the chime but have the ability to turn it off. Had to buy Lariat Lux to get those features in the Mav. I think it should be mandatory on all new cars.

I was run off the road by a Mercedes while driving my Tremor. I noticed his or hers right side mirror flashing apparently the operator of the vehicle didn't. Did that vehicle have a audible warning? You make a good point of having an audible warning system however what good are these if the drivers today are so distracted with other devices like phones and on board entertainment systems.

I have to confirm this but I swear when I was changing lanes with the blind spot lamp illuminated and my turn signal on that I got an alarm before I changed lanes

This is how it works in my CR-V and I love the feature! No chime unless you put on your turn signal, just the light warning in the mirror.

I agree. My wife’s CX-5 does this. However it can be annoying when you are at an intersection with two left turn lanes, it basically just beeps every 10 seconds until the light turns and you make it through the turn lol

I don't know about the other driver's Mercedes but I thought all of the Mercedes had the audible warning, as well as the visual. For the others I did mean a chime/alarm/warning sound only when you have the blind spot activated by a vehicle AND your turn indicator is engaged. I, too, wouldn't want a chime or alarm everytime someone passed me, that would be too intrusive. I do though believe it would be helpful to have that audible notice coupled with the flashing warning light, on the mirror, when you engage the turn signal in the direction where the object is in your blind spot.

I wish this was something that FORD could implement without much trouble both in new and existing vehicles with the blind spot warnings. Just, through a software or programming fix, activate the audible notice/alarm with the flashing presence light in the mirror when it's activated.

Can you disable the audible alert on your vehicles that are equipped with this?

On my Mercedes, you can disable the blind spot protection but it disables both the visual and the audible. You cannot distinguish one from the other you either have both or you have neither. That is on a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350

That is correct. I had a Kia Sportage before the Maverick and that's how it worked on the Kia. I really miss that feature.

That's strange. That was not an issue on the Kia I owned before the Maverick. I always figured the car had to also be moving for the audible tone to go off.

I wonder if Ford, through the FORscan software would allow you to implement this feature? I know that there are features that aren't standard but can be implemented such as the Traffic Sign recognition so I'm wondering if FORD could program their vehicles to have this feature? I know I'd love to have it on my Maverick and I would wager that there are circumstances where the audible alarm has actually saved a driver from an accident rather than relying solely upon the visual.
