Blacked-out Lariat side emblem.

I'm currently doing a chrome delete on my truck and decided to tackle the Lariat side emblem. I did try plasti-dip at first so I could just paint the actual metal text, but I got frustrated with it, and while attempting to remove the excess with tweezers any little touch would break right through and expose the metal. I cleaned the plasti-dip off with a brass brush and went another route. I masked right up to the letters, hit them with self etching primer, peeled that back and masked into the 'ditch' surrounding the text area, hit that with plastic adhesion promoter. Final top coat was rustoleum truck bed spray can (platinum).

Looks pretty good, I think.

Yeah I think it really depends, I think older vehicles with harsh lines look good with chrome, but with the vehicles that Ford makes now all the chrome and silver just makes me think of the silver theme from windows XP, which isn't a good thing.

I know it's a "thing" for some people, but what is the actual fascination with getting rid of chrome accents on a vehicle? I wouldn't want to hide chrome on any vehicle as it is there to add character to it.

I can’t speak for others but I usually just don’t like it on modern vehicles, it looks cheap/garish to me.

What looks good is totally subjective--it doesn't have to be a "thing" or a "fascination". It would truly be a boring world if everyone had the same tastes, don't you think?

Go to eBay and look for maverick fender fender emblems. Seems to be a lot of takeoffs there at reasonable prices.

People have different likes. I like chrome on some things. I want black badges, but I also want gold and chrome wheels(I have an image in my head of how it would look).
