Hello fellow MTC members. I finally pulled the trigger and replaced my almost 4 year old 54K mile flooded battery. I would reccomend spraying some kind of penetrating oil on the threads of the battery hold down bolt. This can be done from underneath the vehicle. The thread of that bolt are very visable and stick out into the elements almost an inch. The reason I say this is, while I was trying to remove the hold down bolt, it was very stiff upon the initial couple of turns. It felt like I was going to break off the bolt. I stopped loosening and decided to try and tighten it to free up the threads. Well, it snapped the bolt :( If I had known that bolt was that exposed, I would have sprayed something on it. It might be due to the fact that the truck has never been garaged in lovely Ohio and exposed to all the salt.

Rob,
Thank you for posting this information. 🤝
Now this old man's going to go spray the threads. 😕

I literally verified it by turning the screw inside, while underneath feeling it turn.

There are two bolts protruding an that area. I would just spray the hell out of any protruding bolt you see on the passenger side rear door under pan!

It made a 40 minute job turn into a two day job complete with a trip to Ace hardware for an M6 bolt and a 13/64 drill bit. I had the M6 tap laying around. :)

This appears to have a loose nut on the bottom . That cant be correct. It would just turn or is the nut welded in place??

Wow, mine is the same age in the same state and also ungaraged. I'll definitely be spraying those threads and any others under there. Thanks for the heads up!

Wait a sec. Are you saying you need to get someone under the truck to hold the nut with a wrench to keep it from spinning. Or the nut is welded in place. I might be changing my battery come summer. Plus my battery was changed at dealer last August so the nut would be less rusted if at all. Just trying to fully understand you.

Not touching anything in the winter . I have my Mav Krowns rust proofing applied each year its like an oil. I wonder if will keep it less rusted than yours was? .
