I've ordered a Lariat (Lux/FX4/4k Tow/360) I'm not sure if it's coming with 17 or 18" I wanted the all black rims but I recently inherited a large farm and need to be able to go down the gravel road when it's wet and muddy but also drive the truck to work daily so what would my best option on aftermarket tires be?

Stock FX4 Pirelli tires should be fine.

Gravel roads destroy tires. I know this firsthand, I drive a mile on gravel roads Mon-Fri. Expect to see anywhere from half to one third the tread life on about any type of tire, depending on how bad and how long the gravel roads are. I've had 85,000 mile rated tires last about 25,000 miles as a worst case scenario.

I would disagree with that. I've read several reviews that state the stock Pirelli Scorpion ATR are horrendous on anything other than wet surfaces or dry dirt.

Since you are going with the Lariat FX4 you can actually choose your wheel and tire combo at no charge. I'd suggest you select the painted black 17s with the 235/65/17 all terrain option. Those tires are Falken Wildpeak AT3W which are severe snow service rated and are very popular in the off road world for their durability on rocks and gravel, plus they will actually handle mud unlike the stock 225/65/17 Pirelli option that has been said to struggle on wet grass and a tiny bit of mud.

Your dealer was able to add the 235’s to your order? Mine showed they were incompatible with the fx4 painted black wheels and I had to get the 17” alloys to get the 235’s.
The Build and Price on Ford.com allowed you to do it but in the actual dealer system it was not compatible. Could you confirm your dealer did it for you? I’d love to get the painted black Fx4 wheels with the falken 235’s (I’m getting a lariat as well).

As mentioned above, gravel is not a friend of tires. The larger the gravel the better the chance it will start chunking your tires sooner. Drive what you have stock on them until you need new ones and you will know what you want on the next set. This is an excellent episode on tires and rims. They discuss gravel specific tires in the episode

My dealer claimed that they would add it and I haven't heard that they couldn't but ill call again tomorrow and verify and let you know.

I had the same issue. Was like a $800 surcharge to swap

I'm getting an order sheet sent over with the change today but from what the dealer was saying is the 2.0 gave me access to the wheels and the rims come on fx4 so there wasn't any charge.

Update: On the order sheet I got the Unique 17s from the fx4 and the 235/65R17 tires price didn't change at all.
