What the heck kind of tires are you getting installed for $425?

Cheaping out on tires for a nice vehicle used for long trips, and driven at 70+ MPH on the highway / interstate is the ultimate false economy. I get it for cheap cars that just need to go from A to B in town, but they have such a dramatic impact on noise, ride quality, handling and safety...and are on most people's vehicles for years. Makes no sense to cheap out.

Standard AS:

Michelin Defender 2
Pirelli Scorpion AS 3
Contiental Tour 54

All-weather AS

Michelin CrossClimate 2
Goodyear WeatherReady 2
Pirelli Scopion WeatherActive

Heavier duty light truck tires:

no clue

I would consider Yokohama or General tires if there was a good deal, maybe Cooper too if budget is more of a concern.

FWIW I recently had a set of the Scopion AS 3's installed at Sam's for $640. Really nice all-around tire, and in the rain. No clue about winter yet.

I would usually agree but I have a buddy that runs a big tire operation. Because of my hate for tire I use a lot of them. So I get to test a lot. I can say I’ve been very impressed lately with some of the cheaper option.
It really depends on what you want out of a tire. I have a set on my stock focus rs rims for street and traveling for work. Just to wear out. Then I have another set of rims with off road tires for when I’m not working

I have Michelin Defender 2. 18in on the Lariat. Best price I see installed is just over $1,000. I don't know if I want to go cheap on tires. I'm at 62,000 miles on the originals with pretty nice tread wear. Getting new ones before winter. Probably next oil change.

$425 OTD is pretty good for a new set! If that works for you, then great!

Personally I've been happy with the Firestone Destination AT2s I had installed this winter. They are an AT though so they're more aggressive than the OEM Continentals. An AT better suits my needs though. IIRC they were about $950 OTD.

Continentals on the retail end are a good deal - if you want something a little less....General Alti-MAX RT-43 or Grabbers are a decent replacement tire that you have to put zero thought into buying.

As a person who lives in North Florida, I'm blessed to not have to deal with any snow. But since I put at least 500 miles a week on my vehicles, tread life is my main concern. So I generally get tires with the highest Treadwear number that I can afford. When I had my Ford focus, it was usually something made by Falkin . I generally avoid Continental or general tires because I've seen too many either ride harshly or wear unevenly on many of the vehicles that come through our dealership. Some people have good experience with them. But a significant number don't. When my money is right, Michelin is my choice. My truck came with Michelins. Hopefully my money is right when they need replacement

I switched to bigger 235/65 r17 Firestone Destination AT2s. Love them! They are all terrain tires but only 28lbs (only 4lbs more than the stock), are sever snow rated and give the truck a more aggressive look. I paid around 950 out the door for them. Michelin CrossClimate 2s would be another fantastic but expensive tire.

I paid like 500 this winter for a set of trail terrains plus install on sale it’s definitely possible to get tires for that price but it takes good finish I had like 4 discounts stacked and a Black Friday sale
