Bed length with tailgate down? Confirmation needed!

There are multiple threads where people are looking for the length w/the tailgate down, the video by Tim Bartz left some doubt with the tape measure somewhat bent. For those that get a chance to look at a training unit, please bring a tape measure and confirm what this length is. 79" (6' 7") as reported by Tim seems to be suspect,,,,

My local dealer is getting his training on the 24th, so I can try to confirm then too.

So you think that TIm can’t read a tape measure, or looked at the tape measure wrong?

There are some that argue hinge positioning could contribute to overall length, but I cannot see a difference of 4 inches. I appreciate the measurements Tim tried to do, but one of the many labs I ran in the chemistry department was how to measure. It is too easy to simply overmeasure because you are not perpendicular to the frame, you tape measure is off, etc etc. we would have required 5 measurements and at least a statistical analysis to see if there were outliers, plus accounting for temperature variations etc. Way overkill for Tim. But when you say a number that is over 5% in variance to your manufacturer, I get really really bad feelings about the live measurements.

And yes, that’s what we are talking about ~5.5% difference between Tim’s measurement and published.

Tim is close, I measure 6' 6 1/4" from the top of the cab back ridges to the edge of the tailgate trim.

but if you wanna go with measure once, cut 2x and wonder why you come up short, go for it.

I'm wondering how many inches from ground to opened tailgate. I will use a ramp to load my cripple cart. I now use a small trailer but that is a pain. Also thinking of a crane for P/U bed.

King ranchero already settled the discussion, but the width of the door at a 45 degree angle times 2 absolutely does add to the overall length. The door doesn't fold and retract under the bed!
