I will start by saying my Ranger had a Leer hard top on it so I have never had to consider a tonneau cover before {hell, I misspell the damn word more often than not when researching these things}. The subject quite frankly is beyond confusing! So many choices and so many manufacturers I am not sure how people ever decide on these things! I will start by saying I ordered a soft trifold but removed it based on what I read on this forum. My Maverick will be used for the basic things all trucks are used for, trips to Lowes, the garden centers, moving things, grocery store trips, weekend getaways, etc. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia so the climate isnt harsh. Moderate snow in the winters and not blazing hot summers. I like the look of the "in bed" ones that are level with the sides but that isnt a "must have". Not too keen on the ones that have the sides that close with velcro. I would also like to order the bed extender but left it off my build because the Ford site stated that it would not work with a cover {which I dont think is true but maybe it is on certain styles?}. So here I am, waiting on my build and wondering how I will ever decide on what cover to buy once it does arrive. These things are not cheap so I dont want to make a bad choice. I guess my question is, given the main parameters of security, looks, ease of use, and possible bed extender is there a "better" choice? Not so much worried about the manufacturer at this point but just want to start with the main decision - hard rollup, hard folding, soft folding, soft rollup! Help!

There are quite a few threads here concerning bed covers, take some time to browse through them, should provide some good direction for you.

This worked for me and I'm right there with you. I never owned a truck and use my Maverick for exactly as your describe you are using yours.

I would highly suggest you try this: https://realtruck.com/p/gator-sfx-tri-fold-tonneau-cover/

It's a soft trifold and it's all I need. Security is not a concern. Locks are for honest people anyway. Functionality though; easy on, easy off, if I need that, but mostly just leave it and use it like a trunk. I contacted [email protected] and mentioned I was on this group and I got a great deal for this cover from real truck.

If you're not sure wait til you get your maverick. I am. Went with Gator Tonneau cover because it was on sale for $250. Toppers will most likely go down or have more options when manufacturers get their hands on a Maverick. As mentioned this site was a wealth of information that is sort of too much info.

Thanks but seems the more I read the more confusing it gets! Maybe confusing isn't the correctv word though- maybe it's my lack of decision making!

Thanks, that looks similar to the Ford one!

Thanks - I'm not sure either but both the soft-folding cover and the bed extender say they wont work together on the Ford Build site. Maybe a bracket gets in the way?

I would like a truck topper in the future, but refuse to pay $3449 for one from Ford. Way overpriced. Will happily volunteer to be the sizing guinea pig for Leer or ARE toppers in the Daytona Beach/ Orlando area or Softopper. Anyone? Bueller? When my Mav finally arrives, I'll probably go with the tri-fold tonneau for the time being.

Bed extenders are overrated. A single strap going out of the bed under then above tailgate around whatever it is you need to keep in place will work in almost all cases. For the other case get a piece of OSB, plywood, etc cut it to the width of the tailgate and strap directly around that as a backer. Not only that it works with any bed cover.

Besides any tonneau cover can be pried off with a heavy enough crowbar. With that said the it just has be secure enough that it isn't low lying fruit which is good enough in most scenarios unless the thief is desperate or already knew you had something they wanted in the bed.
