I'm preparing to add Milwaukee Packout toolboxes into the back seat area of my truck. I thought others who might be considering a "back seat delete" (for any number of reasons) might like to see what's underneath all the pretty blue plastic.

As you can see, it's an Ecoboost model. The hybrid will be different on the passenger side.

Some of the trim plastic around the doors may be reinstalled for my project. But I wanted to show what I had to remove to get the seats and underseat storage bins out.

I was hoping the front curb of the back seat might be removable brackets. Unfortunately, it's an integral part of the unibody construction. I'm sure it provides a lot of crossbody rigidity and prevents a lot of side collision injuries.

A kind of stupid question: if someone remove the metal that create the pockets below the seats, to make a more flat structure for whatever reaso they have. how much removing that part would affect the structure (or integrity) of the truck ?

Not looking forward to do such a thing, is just curiosity.

You'd destroy the truck. The Maverick has no tube steel rectangular frame underneath, like a traditional truck. This is unibody construction, which mean lightweight steel is bent into various shapes in such a way that the folds create a rigid structure.

Kinda like taking flat cardboard and folding it into a box.

Cut out an integral piece, and the whole thing is unpredictably weakened.

You can add, but you can't take away.

I too would like the option to remove the back seats and use it for tool storage. Might be a good product for Weathertech to come up with a solution. I would be fine with just removing the seats and replacing them with some kind of solid surface to provide storage space behind the front seats.

You bought a Lariat and then rip out the seats? Why not just get an XL for a lot less money? The XL is much more suitable for contractor use.
Yes, I did. Because I wanted push-to-start, a nicer stereo, touch handle unlocking, heated seats, wipe-clean upholstery, dual zone climate controls, etc.

I have 4 houses to maintain in 3 different states. After years of trying to remember where a tool might be, I decided to take them with me. Tools in the truck bed rust quickly in the deep South. The heating and air conditioning in the cab really make a difference.

I'm recreating a system using Milwaukee Packouts that has worked well for me in my ancient Sport Trac (see photo).

I'm not advocating this type of modification for everyone. It fits MY needs. Your needs in a truck are likely entirely different. Your money . . . your truck . . .

I'd say you can remove the three bumps, the three turtle shell looking things, the three risers for the seats but that's about it.

i've been hoping someone would make a kit to simplify this with "readymade finishing touches". also have been looking forward to someone doing it themselves and posting about it.
i don't need the tool rack system you are building out, but i but would like a space i could put cylinder heads or other bulky items i don't want in the open bed.
i've had my truck over two years and have never had a backseat passenger and likely never will.

Are you going to use the power points to recharge batteries on the go?

Interesting to see how these puppies are put together. Thanks for the photos.

Do you plan on installings a "Floor/Shelf" of plywood or steel as a mounting surface?
And how do the Milwaukee Packouts install?

I've thought about it. But probably won't.

I have enough batteries that I generally set up a pack out with all the chargers inside at whatever house I'm working on.

I wouldn't mind charging while driving, but don't want to leave lithium batteries charging unattended in an oven hot parked truck.

A 3/4 plywood surface to mount the Packout mounting bases to. I'll post a photo here when I'm done. That curb and high driveshaft hump are screwing up my plans. 🙁

You mean as suppling a flat surface to attach the plywood too.

Thanks for the pics.

Now I can stop fantasizing about converting the under seat storage bins into drawers. Oh well.
