I am wondering how sensitive the auto stop feature is? On my Jeep Compass, if I stop literally ever, the car shuts itself off. Basically any time the car rocks backwards after stopping, it will shut off immediately. Especially frustrating at stop signs and also when parking - I stop, car shuts off, I move shifter to park, car turns itself on, and then I turn the car off manually :ROFLMAO: Just wondering if the Maverick is the same way or if it waits 30 seconds or some other allotted time before shutting off? Please say if your experiences are with EB or Hybrid. Thanks!

With the hybrid the ICE motor turns on and off all the time depending how hard you're accelerating, how fast you're driving, or if the electrical system needs a little recharge. It's often, it is a hybrid.

Predictable but no shenanigans like every full stop, or turning on when put into Park.

There is a list of things that will prevent it if from stopping, but basically once the engine warms up it will shutoff a couple seconds after you stop. If you let up on the brake a little, it will turn back on; and stay on until the next time you stop. If you stop with the steering wheel turned, it is supposed to not stop, but that isn’t my experience with my Maverick; it seems my Escape is better at that.
Either way, I hit the button when I start; I don’t like the feeling of sitting a light with it shut off. Don’t care about the minimal gas savings.

It depends on how you hold the brake. If you don't hold it down all the way, the vehicle interprets that as you about to start moving and keeps the engine running. It's useful for stop signs.

I used to hate the feature but now enjoy the few minutes of no vibration at red lights.

Engine shuts off and turns on frequently in the hybrid for other reasons...since that is how hybrids work!

For the EB, here's some info from the owner's manual:

Why does the engine not always stop when I expect it to?
The system is designed to work in a way that complements other vehicle systems, allowing them to operate at optimum performance.
The system does not stop the engine if:
• The driver door is open.
• Your vehicle is at high altitude.
• The heated windshield is on.
• The engine is warming up.
• The outside temperature is too low or too high.
• The battery charge is low.
• The battery temperature is outside the optimal operating range.
• The engine is required to run to maintain interior climate and reduce fogging.
Why does the engine sometimes restart when I do not expect it to?
The system is designed to work in a way that complements other vehicle systems, allowing them to operate at optimum performance.
The system restarts the engine if:
• You switch the heated windshield on.
• You switch maximum defrost on.
• Your vehicle starts to roll downhill in neutral.
• The engine is required to run to maintain adequate brake system assistance.
• The engine is required to run to maintain interior climate and reduce fogging.

I would have to say the premature wear on the starter will cost a lot more than the small fuel savings. I hate the start stop feature but to each his own .

Supposedly it is not a typical starter, and it is designed to handle it.
But I’m with you, I don’t need that wearing out. I also don’t like the idea of it running of the battery each time it stops either.

I have it in my 2017 Ford Escape and turn it off every time I get in . I think they engineered to meet the MPG government gas requirements .

Can you disable it ? I'v seen aftermarket units for Subaru that will bypass that feature. Not a fan of it.

What is my Ford's Auto Start-Stop technology?

Auto Start-Stop Technology (if equipped) can help reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions during city driving by switching off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop.

How does the Auto Start-Stop technology work?

When you apply the brakes and come to a complete stop, like at a red light, your engine automatically shuts off. A light on the instrument cluster will let you know that the engine is off. Once you take your foot off the brake pedal, your vehicle automatically restarts without delay.

Notes:
  • Auto Start-Stop may not shut your engine off if your vehicle battery is charging, the engine is still warming up, or if you’re using heat or air conditioning.
  • Your vehicle is equipped with a heavy-duty starter and battery to help compensate for a high number of starts and stops.

With the chip shortage I would have thought it would have been omitted for 23 .

There is a button to disable it. But it is auto-on every time you start the vehicle. Auto-start stop has been dropped in many 22 and 23 vehicles due to a chip shortage.

I haven't changed a starter on a car since my 77 Datsun B210. I do have hazy-fond memories of screwdriver-starts, but it seems like they've figured out how to make starters last.

I had one die on my 2005 Ford Freestyle . It just went completely dead . Now I have a 2017 Escape with low miles and am waiting on my roll over Maverick . Good thing I have the Escape .

I tried to get use to the auto stop/start function, but my old-school brain could not tolerate it. I bought the eliminator for $89. Simple no tools plug-in. Now when I start the truck, the auto start/stop defaults to the off mode.
