I have a strange problem with my FX4. If I pull up to my gate and get out, close the door with the engine running my drivers door automatically locks 😳
Sure glad to have the key pad, it’s been a lifesaver.
Anyway, anyone experienced this? Maybe I’m fat fingering the door lock button when grabbing the door handle 🤔

A very, VERY old thread, but I just experienced similar.

Pulled up to the mailbox down the street, got out left the engine running, key FOB in hand (needed the mailbox key). Retrieved my mail, grabbed the door handle and it was locked. Despite me having the key with me and not in the car, it would not unlock. Fortunately, the back door was unlocked so I opened it, reached forward and manually unlocked the driver's door.

There's a chance that I bumped the lock button while getting out, but I didn't notice doing that, and it's not normal that I do that. Although if I bumped the electric door lock button, all the doors would lock so it probably isn't that.

Is this some kind of anti-theft feature? To me, if the key is outside and the vehicle is running, the door shouldn't lock. And if it does lock, it should unlock when I grab the door handle just as it does when it is NOT running.

🤔 TOM,
You are unknowingly Pushing the Lock LEVER as you push open your door.

This is a very common phenomenon NEW owners discover with the Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport, because of similar door handle design. Allowing the driver to unconsciously, accidentally, mistakenly, inadvertently lock his door while pushing it open.😱
The fact that you state, 'Fortunately, the back door was unlocked.' confirms 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt. That you accidentally locked the driver's door by unknowingly pushing the lock lever while pushing open the door when you got out of the truck.😉 👇👇

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Ford also issued the Below Service Bulletin

Tom,
Not that much more can be added but, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to post them.

I kind of gathered that from other threads on the subject, after I posted this. Apparently, it's not hard to do, although I've never done it before that I can recall. Odd how grabbing the door handle with my key in my hand didn't unlock it. But with the back door not locked, entry was not a problem.

That is strange keyless-entry didn't work.

Then again - the manual lock you did does mean you really want this door locked.
Never mind the fact the others weren't.

Be glad you either have the setting to unlock all doors when yours opens, or you didn't drive above 5mph to cause all door lock.

Well - with fob in hand - you have a physical key.

Worst case scenario, I could walk 1/3 mile up the street and retrieve a hammer and take out a window. Not that I'd want to do that, but there's always a way into a car.
