I don't need auto dimming anything, because I don't drive at night...

In winter it's dark before 5pm.
I can't avoid driving at night.
Wish I could.

Expedition came with auto dimming side mirror on drivers side only. It's pretty neat.

I'm starting to think low tech.

Tint the thing.

No real reason it can't be dim 24/7.

I don't need 4k Ultra-Hi-Def resolution anyway. It's really a struggle to read road signs in a mirror.

Just need to know is someone there or not.

Or tint the side front windows.
50% of people do it. Legal or not.

I might consider the low-tech solution to save my eyes from the jacked up pickup trucks with stupid looking wheels that like to tailgate me at night. These are currently the only thing I put on my mirrors. Handles the "need to someone is there" thing.

Cops would probably prefer I tint the mirror. (Would they even notice?) Versus tinting the side windows.
🤷🏻‍♂️

My 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium has the auto dimming side view mirrors and it's a feature I sorely miss on my Maverick, along with rain sensing wipers that my Fusion also has. I did the auto dimming/homelink mirror install for the interior, which was easy but I suspect exterior auto dimming mirrors on the Maverick would be a lot harder to add.

What are you smokin'?
Here is a video about proper mirror adjustment. SAE guidelines.
Skip to 1:10 for the meat of the video. I have absolutely no blind spots. I don't have a need to see my door handle, if something is that close it's already too late.

I have never heard of auto dimming side mirrors and also have never felt a need. Now an auto dimming rear view mirror is wonderful.
I had them as a factory option on my Subaru and they were well worth it! Not only were they auto-dimming, but heated and had courtesy light that would turn on as you approached vehicle and stayed on for about 30 seconds (or whatever you wanted to control the duration) after you left the vehicle. I'd LOVE to have those features, along with the auto-dimming rear view (which the Subi had as well). Together, they make night-time driving more convenient.

You've never had a truck before, have you?
Been a truck owner since 1988.
You? Sold my 2004 Silverado 2500HD when I got the Maverick. Before that a 1988 Dodge Dakota. Ran both to 250,000 miles. The Dakota was basic. Base model. Would have had the mirror problem. I had a bed cap on it though and strongly tinted back window on the cap. The Silverado was top tier. Had automatic everything. Plus I was taller than most vehicles. Plus lights were much nicer halogens back then. Not a problem then.

So I've done Medium, Large, and Small.

Ford Maverick Auto-Dimming Side Mirrors dead hrose

Couldn't help myself.

I had no idea guys were so serious about mirrors. I have owned cars with only 1 side mirror.... how did we manage to thwart Darwin's plan?
