I am having some serious issues with my 23 Maverick with getting Apple carplay to work. It will work 2-3 times then just its like its not there. Will not connect, Have to shut truck off several times to work again. I am to the point to switch phones to google if it works better. The Sync system in the Maverick is its worst fault.

I have had great usability and reliability with my iphone and carplay. No issues for a year and a half of use. Not sure if it matters but I am using the cord that came with my iphone. This is my first iphone after being a long time Android user and while there are quirky things about how an iphone operates that I don't like compared to android phones, the phone itself has been way more reliable than any android phone I've had.

Have you updated software? Do you know anyone with an android phone who can attempt to hook up to your Mav so you can possibly rule out the phone itself? It may be your head unit, sounds like it would be a shame to get a new phone only to find out that it's the radio itself.

I use both, Carplay with an iPhone 13 mini(iOS 15.0,) and Android Auto with a Oneplus 9.
Both work great on my Sync 3 with original Firmware, Build 21194

I've used a cable, but now use an AAWireless Adapter for the last 5 months.

I'd recommend trying a different cable first.

I don't know about Apple products, but my Pixel 4a works perfectly with Android Auto, using a cable that came with the phone. It also works great on Bluetooth for just playing music.

I would first try a different cable, a brand name like Anker, or from Apple. Use one a short cable, like a three-footer.

iPhone 13 Pro Max with the latest patches works just fine. Picked up an adapter for when I want to use it wirelessly and that also works like a charm. However, I do plug it in 80% of the time.

I have only had the truck for a little over a week, but Android Auto has worked 100% every drive. We shall see how long it lasts. But, when it would fuck up in my Volt, I would go into the phone and force stop Android Auto. Then replug it in, and it would fix it.

As far as Carplay, my wife says it's about the same in her Volt. It would intermittently stop working and she would just restart the phone. Haven't tried her iPhone in the Maverick and don't plan on ever plugging it in, so can't help there unfortunately.

I think both are equally buggy when using Ford Connected Audio, so no, I would not switch for stability reasons. Both have options for wireless adapters that people have linked and talked about in prior replies.

The usability of Android Auto is better, in my experience. My son has an iPhone, fairly recent value model but I believe it's using the current release of IOS and CarPlay.

Google Maps sucks on it compared to a current model Android like I use. Apple's UI with the buttons on the left, music lower right, etc gives less than half the screen to maps, maybe 1/3rd, and the zoom seems to be fixed at a useless distance, and streets are not labeled. It might work better on a bigger display than the Maverick's 8".

Android Auto gives at least half of the 8" in the main screen and if you don't have any notifications you get the other half of the screen for your media as well. Streets are labeled and it will zoom way out when you're on the highway and no exits nearby, and zoom way in when you need to turn.
