As ejouie said, Ford shows in its ads the MAV towing the Lancer. Ford has also showed the MAV towing the airstream basecamp. I think most travel trailers under the 4K GVWR should be OK.
True but I am not willing to spend $48 on an Airstream -) Also being at Elevation and with 80 MPH speed limits here I know it's going to be fun -

If you have the 4K tow package, I believe the frontal load consideration is 40 sqft. The MAV itself covers about 35 sqft. Your 63 sqft trailer load less the MAV's 35 sqft would render you 28 sqft of of trailer frontal load. That puts you under the 40 sqft load consideration for the trailer.
Is it written somewhere officially that deducting the F/L of the tow vehicle is included when calculating trailer frontal load ?

Yes, but if not, your calculation would allow you to only pull a 6x8 flatbed trailer with a lawnmower on it. Add some shovels and blowers, and you are in trouble 😎

Well at this point the Rove lite trailer is looking like the better option- Geo/PRO is a way tall legit trailer with heavy tongue- Gas mileage would probably be 11ish -

It doesn't. It is a separate number. between the tailgate and front of trailer almost none of the air will be blocked. A cap will help some because the air will be straighter coming over the cab. Without the cap the air comes over the cab, down over the tail gate and straight into the nose of the trailer. See below pic. I added a cap on my 13 F150 that pulled 3,000-3,500 in a small 4X6 enclosed V nose trailer. MPG went from 14.7 to 19.3 at 70-75mph after the change.

I think this is a nice drawing. But I'd like to see some engineering data or source of information?

The colors probably represent air pressure but I don't know the scale.
But for illustrative purposes lets assume the truck is moving 60 mph in still air.

Ford Maverick Anyone towing a Geo/Pro 15 ? 1693287335186

Red - 60 mph of air pressure
Orange - could be about 50
Yellow - could be about 40
Green - could be about 30
Cyan - could be about 20
Blue - could be about 10
Dark blue - about zero pressure.

So YES the truck blocks A LOT of air from hitting the trailer.

Following an 18-wheeler 100 feet back your vehicle has less wind resistance than traveling through still air, which is worst case. And turbulent air always has less resistance than still air.

Force on 8' x 8' frontal area at 90 degrees:

80 mph = 1048 pounds pushing back
70 mph = 802 pounds pushing back
60 mph = 590 pounds pushing back
50 mph = 409 pounds
40 mph = 262 pounds
30 mph = 147 pounds
20 mph = 65.5 pounds
10 mph = 16.4 pounds

After lots of thought, I Decided to build a 5'X5' angled platform above the bed (think sprint car wing without the billboards) with 4 vertical risers attached to boards in the bed cross slots. I think this should greatly reduce the trailer wind resistance. Like below:

I am also lowering my trailer by 6". both combined should make a difference in resistance. My trailer has a 28.3 Sq ft front, so it has a little more than recommended by Ford. Weight is currently about 1,100# I keep the power meter under 50%, so I know the truck is not being stressed. The 5' X 5' wing and lowering really should cut drag on the trailer.

To pull that you don't NEED a wind spoiler/shield/wing. But I'd be very curious to see your MPG data both with, and without, in the most precise repeatable conditions you can muster.

Ended up with a Rove/Light - It's not small but has everything we need and then some. Still perplexed by the love for overland teardros which u have to squeeze into, wife said it's like tent camping with shelves -)

Very nice camper. Quite a bit more air friendly than my square drop. Hopefully my plan works to increase towing mileage by 10-20%. I didn't want to spend a lot on a camper, because we will only be using it a few times per year, and for 2-5 days at a time. Maybe 12-15 days a year. Then we can decide to upgrade, keep it, or just sell it after a few years. I am lowering it now by 6", which will allow it to fit in my garage. I didn't want a tear drop because you can't stand up in them.

True, not needed, but the wing should help a lot combined with me lowering the trailer by 6".

I have been looking at the Rove Lite, too. I would be very interested in hearing what your mileage is while towing the RL.

Please prove it by testing both with and without because I so want to believe in this. It may turn out to be like the tailgate thing. It "feels" like driving with tailgate open would help MPG but in reality it doesn't. Science isn't always intuitive.

It "may" turn out the weight of your wing cancels out gas savings 1:1 with the reduced drag. Since I assume you don't have a supercomputer to do virtual wind tunnel tests, I am excited to see you try this out full scale.
