I keep hearing an almost electrical sounding buzz in my left ear while driving. It does not happen when stopped. But when in motion above 25mph or so I hear it pretty often. I put my ear up to the b pillar and it definitely seems like it’s coming from there. Maybe something to do with the seatbelt return mechanism? It’s pretty annoying.

Yeah me too but on the right passenger side. Then a strong electrical burning smell.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end. Thank you!

You figure out what this was by chance? Have the exact same noise in mine…driving me nuts.

Nope. When I took it into the dealer for the trailer brake recall they looked into it. Said they added a piece of insulation in there which helped a little. Can still hear it though. When I have to go back to the dealer again I’ll have them look into it more. While listening to music I don’t ever hear it.

So I think I figured this one out.

have/had the same issue and its really annoying. Not all the time especially if the windows are down or you are bumping some tunes but if you just relaxing low key its like a little bug in your ear.

what I had to do was run a bass Frequency test with the radio/YouTube at about 15-20 on the volume knob. This let me find the frequency that would trigger the noise that seemingly happens all the time but not all the time, clearly it was a specific vibration setting it off. mine was at 65hz of bass I could hear it and it was steady. Found a 1 hour video of 65hz and at this point I pulled open the b pillar to poke around and nail down where it was coming from.

Mine ended up being all the way down at the seatbelt retractor/lock. on the part that feeds out the belt there's a bit of plastic on it that seems to just move ever so minimally that it makes that buzz. I cut a piece of dense foam I had lying around about 1.5 inches and double-sided stuck it on that piece so when the panel was close up it'll keep a bit of pressure on it to stop those little vibes. On my short 2 mile drive afterwards it was gone. Ill see thought out this week how it really does but so far I'm pretty hopeful.

Update.

Drive to work and back today, buzzing noise/rattle is gone. Pretty sure I nailed it and thank God because it was driving me crazy.

You just did what would have taken half a dozen Ford engineers 6 months to do.

I'm hearing the same exact buzzing! How did you remove the b pillar trim pieces?

I realize this is an old thread but I didn't see any new ones.

I'm having this same issue on a brand new 2025. Also there is some irony in that my 2017 Focus RS also had a very similar buzzing sound from the same area (though a different cause) and it was well documented.

I'm going to investigate the seat belt retractor as noted above to see if this resolves it.
