I'm with Old School. Now back in the day, if you didn't have these on your ride, you weren't cool

If only chromium and other chemicals didnt kill off the people who used to work with it. I like and miss chrome but it was nasty nasty stuff. Polished aluminum will do the trick just fine for me. Not the black on black on black everything is today. Black painted trim used to be what you saw in the trailerpark, now its everywhere. I hope I can one day find or adapt some 16" polished aluminum wheels for mine. I can grind down the calipers and put spacers on.

I like the style of the wheels on the xlt, I just don't like the color. That said, I just might when I have a week of time unscheduled or when I need to put on new tires, remove my painted stock XLT wheels. brush fresh paint remover on them, rub with 000 steel wool and repeat several times between spraying off. When all metal is showing, power buff the wheels till the outer rim and spokes y shine. Lots of elbow grease and little cost.

You could probably find a shop to polish and clearcoat them for you for a minimal amount. You'd get professional quality and the clear coat would give you protection from oxidizing.

You do have a point. But in our rural area shops like that do not exist. I would have to send them out. Maybe a local independent small tire shop could know.

I have done many motorcycle wheels over the years. Being retired I do have plenty of time in my garage. At my age (73) polishing wheels allows me to wiggle. Wiggling helps me live longer.

Did you have any luck with polishing your wheels?

polished aluminum with clear coat can look awesome if you take your time. There is a youtuber called "Chrisfix" that has a video on doing just that.

Thanks for asking Hogman,
Actually, been too busy to think about it but now after 4 months and 3k miles I'm probably going to live with them awhile as they are and be happy not doing the work with my arthritis getting worse. Maybe the warmer weather will help. Cold is not my friend.
