You guys still have that ad-volarum (sp?) tax?
No. All new vehicles sold after 2012 pay the one-time TAVT fee instead of the yearly ad-valorem tax.

There is no way to determine the trim level of the Maverick by just the VIN. I had a 2015 Nissan Leaf which was the same way, and my GA title listed it as Nissan Leaf S SL SV. I'm assuming my Maverick's title will be the same way.

There is - by running that VIN through a database. ;)

🚗🦊 knows, so there is always a way to look it up. Especially if you're the government looking to collect those juicy tax dollars.

I agree. Which digit of the Vin denotes the trim level?

No, it was replaced by the sales tax which we never paid when we had the ad-valorum tax. Six of one/half dozen of the other. I keep vehicles for several years, so it works out. If you buy and sell often, it hurts.

Before 2013, when you purchased a new car from a dealer in GA you paid sales tax. Before 2013, if you purchased a used car from an individual there was no sales tax. Now, no matter who you buy a car from you pay 6.6% TAVT which is NOT a sales tax but a value tax called ad valorem. This rate can change every year.

Full Details of this mess is here:

https://dor.georgia.gov/motor-vehic...ad-valorem-tax-tavt-and-annual-ad-valorem-tax

CG is correct, if you keep the car for years its great. If you sell often its terrible.

Also, if you move to GA, god help you, some how some way, GA gets away with taxing you to bring your car into GA. Not even sure how this is legal but evidently no one has sued the state of GA, yet!

It doesn't have to work that way.
They can "lookup" your info via VIN.

Like does your home address explain your home's value? No. But I can lookup your address on Zillow.

I have a 2008 Ford Ranger XL. When I called to get my insurance agent to add it to my policy, she asked me if it was "the XL or the XLT," she said in her system the VIN came up as both. At some point, my mechanic had to look up the VIN, and he said the same thing - the system showed it as both an XL and XLT? This was all within the last couple years, and in relation to an older Ford. Maybe a ford thing? Dunno.

Not to pile on, but per the VIN decoder posted here, the trim level is not included in the VIN. However comma, there could indeed be some magical Ford database that correlates Sequential Vehicle Identifiers (the last 6 characters of the VIN) with the trim of that particular vehicle.

To you guys talking about taxes, at least you don't have to deal with Michigan's outrageously expensive no-fault auto insurance...

It's gotten better the last few years, but still unjustifiably exorbitant.
Florida also has a "No-fault clause so we have to pay for all the unnsured drivers to cover medical costs.

I live in Anderson,In
I purchased mine in April and I had the same situation happen.
I had to take her out to the truck and show her.
Something wrong with their data base.
They fixed mine after I went back a second time.
I think your assessment of an incorrect database is the most logical answer.

Correct. I found a Vin "decoder" on Ford-truck.com that list's all kinds of information, including trim, on my 2002 Explorer. Not sure how accurate it is. It says my truck has fog lights but it does not.
