...You can wrap your ratchet straps around themselves and secure the loose ends, or, put them in the cubby space...
I throw 'em in a big ziplok bag and store in the bed cubbies. Keeps them cleaner (the cubbies get dirty inside if driving dirt/gravel roads).

The Mav is my first truck, but something I've noticed is light stuff seems to really get sucked out of the bed. I haven't lost a lot, but if I leave ratchet straps in the back, the ropes fly up and flap around.

Then I look over at somebody elses truck and they'll have empty plastic bottles in the back.

I've taken measures to prevent this like bungees and other straps, but has anyone noticed this?
Thanks for the warning.

Like you've I've noticed all kinds of other more full sized bed trucks with light stuff & trash in the bed - and it doesn't fly out.

I would have thought I could have gotten by in the same way - now I know.

I guess from other's comments yes the Maverick does have bad aerodynamics in the bed.
Seems no one has commented on the comparison though.

My ratchet straps fit in those nice little pockets beside the rear seats the door bucket works too. Which is a little easier than under the seat. I might try that compartment in the bed. Forgot that was there honestly.

Can't say it is any more than normal for any truck.

Since littering fines can be over $6,000 USD here, people tend to secure things.

You’ll love your truck even more with a tonneau cover!

I was a long distance bike rider, and it would amaze you what I've seen flying out of the beds of trucks. I've seen bottles, coolers, plastic chairs, clothing, and other lightweight stuff go flying out of trucks without a cover, and some even leave their tailgate down too, which is never a good idea.

Yes I indeed do!

But there have been a few times rollup was needed to carry something slightly too tall, and I might have thought the other items in there were heavy enough to hold themselves down - wasn't on the highway so perhaps not near the required speed to have a problem.
I just know I've been amazed watching other trucks with items seemingly untouched in bed by cab, kinda assumed I'd get the same. Never saw a highway flyout, but usually in rush hour traffic so eyes on other things.

I learned about truck bed aerodynamics from my Army paratrooper days. Riding in the back of a troop transport truck is a real tutorial in how air works in an open bed. Buffeting winds - not a steady state. It is quite chaotic back there. And sometimes a blast would try to knock you off your seat at higher speeds.

A real tutorial in the power of moving air is jumping out of a C-130 at 130 mph. Anything not super-secured to your body is gonna decorate the landscape below. It mildly stuns you for a second or two.

I generally assumed the turbulence of the air in the bed would keep things put, more or less. Turns out if it's got a lot of surface area, it's very light, or both it can definitely blow out at speeds above 50.

We wrapped up a pretty hard MTB ride in Dillon CO a few months ago and put helmets, shoes, etc in the bed for 3 riders, right up against the forward-most part of the bed. That stuff didn't move. I also had an empty 20oz squeeze water bottle somewhere in the bed and it flew out on the drive back. I didn't see it go - thought surely I had it somewhere. But it's gone and hopefully didn't bounce off anyone's car behind me, lol. I always put bottles in the truck cab, except that one time. Whoops!

Get a bed cover, or drive slower. Think of an airplane wing, the cab of your truck creates a vacuum behind it over the bed, that's how airplanes get off the ground. light objects will fly out of the bed when you go fast.

Howdy Ozarkbeard,

just we’re out running around in wife’s hybrid Maverick, any fall colors up that way? Where did you say we might see some elk?
