Get this at a parts store or amazon.DON,T cut the flaps out!look in the truck all over, should be one in the truck.
Likely under the rear seat in the storage area. That's where ours was.

I'll look for it. I know that the "main one Ford has is reported not to work". Someone reported that he found one that would.
The one that came with our Maverick from Ford works fine. I am always adding gas strictly from the 50 gals worth of cans I have in the garage.

sorry, I edited my post. This fill tube adapter is what I am talking about. Mine has a center divider that makes using is difficult without spilling. I didn't mean the main port for filling, hahaha.

I ended up just cutting out the flap as suggested. I use the cans from my landscaping business a lot over the summer and this makes it frictionless.

Don't cut the little trap door ... it'll allow dirt, debris and water in. Further, most vehicles can detect that (from experience(y)) .... use the supplied funnel

If the gas cap is left off gas is able to escape from the system. When this happens, a self-test of the performance system detects this "leak" in the EVAP (Evaporative Emissions System) and the check engine light comes on, and a code is stored

Long sharp knife and pliers. Cut the center piece (flap) out. Make it a straight tube. Won’t hurt anything.

Edit: I am talking about the whit plastic fill tube that comes with the truck, not the flap to the gas tank. sorry.
About 20mi after you do that dumb move, you will get an engine fault warning showing a fuel fume storage failure, and the fix will set you back about $500 for the new capless filler assembly. This is not a 1940 fuel system.

I am talking about the white funnel that comes with the truck to fill from a gas can. Not the filler system built into the truck.

The one that came with my previous Ford did not have anything inside of it that slowed down filling. The new one does. I have been using the old one since I bought it without issue. 30,000 miles in and no repairs needed.

I keep a 55 gallon drum of gas in the garage all the time, so I regularly rotate. I’ve just used a gas can with normal spout and have never had trouble like the OP, didn’t get a white funnel with my trucker either so never thought to use one. Well over 100 gallons filled direct from a can, no spillage thus far… then again I’m a pro at this now lol

Probably a dumb question but what’s the trick? All my other vehicles are older and you just open the gas cap and pour. Easy. This truck, I spill gas everywhere cause of the flaps.
look in your owners manual, there is a little white/translucent funnel somewhere in your truck. Mine was under the back seat rattling around. It may be in the pouch that has the jack in it behind the back seat.

My funnel was under the front seat.i also doubt there is any difference in a ford gas funnel or aftermarket.i,ve used both with no problems
You don't understand, we need to spend as much money as possible getting things for our vehicle.

Why are we reviving this thread from last year to answer a question that's clearly been answered already.

Read the thread before you reply to the first post.

Ok so the benefit is it’s one step easier st the gas station. Guess I never saw this as something that needed simplification
I bet it's all (or at least mostly) because it's cheaper than a real cap.
Then when it fails you get to buy a whole new fill tube from Ford.
A win-win for them......
