Hey all-

I am a new Mav owner (1 week) but noticed my AC turns on every time I start my Mav. Is this an issue or does anyone experience this? I'll turn off the AC and notice when I start my car up later its on.

I am in SoCal and its been in the 60s so I don't think the temp should be affecting it. Even when I start my car in the garage in the morning, it'll still turn on.
I just pick-up 2025 xlt, it does the same thing.

Honestly, I thought that post was a joke, I have pressed every single button in multiple combinations, and it still comes on.

Tried:
Auto on/off
Dual zone
Circulate and Recirculate
Feet, Arms, Defrost
Starting with Fan Off/On

2025 AWD Hybrid Lariat

So there’s no software update that stops the AC from turning on automatically when the fan is on?

No updates coming, that's how it was designed to work to control humidity in the cab. Maybe Ford got tired of complaints from customers about their vehicles getting mouldy? Who knows?

Exactly..in regards to leaving the A/C on or off in the posts above. Not too long ago, the word around the street was to NOT leave your A/C on when you shut the truck. In fact, I saw where you were supposed to turn the A/C off about a mile or so from stopping, blow just the outside air for a bit and then shut the truck. Reason being, so the "inside" of the A/C area would not stay as wet/damp, therefore drying a bit and not getting that moldy smell...like some are experiencing with this new Maverick. Whether it's true or not...I don't know. Just passing on what I heard years ago.

Which is why the modern HVAC systems won't let the settings stay in recirculate mode, and turns it on and off on it's own. Most of those problems with mouldy AC lines came from people leaving recirculate on all the time, which prevented the system from dehumidifying the cab.
;)

That is what home systems do - keep running the fan for just a bit, of course those have a drip pan carrying the water away.

I was told same thing.

Considering how many vehicles have such hard to reach coil areas they have a can of mold killer to just spray into the vicinity to hopefully help - I always figured can't hurt anything to attempt a tad more drying.

Having AC on at all times pulls one or two horsepower from the system. Cruising at 55 mph for example only requires 20 horsepower. Therefore. Air Conditioning could be responsible for 10% of your fuel consumption.

Why run it if you don't need it for cooling or dehumidifying?

West of the Mississippi and North of say, Kansas there's plenty of time you don't need cooling or dehumidifying.
yes, I was just reading the thread as I am having the same issue. You don't need dehumidifying driving around with the windows open, yet the AC comes every time I start the car and eventually realize it and turn it off. Yes, it puts a load on the engine, it runs electric fans and puts a load on the electrical system as well for no reason. I would be fine if you left it in automatic mode, but in manual mode you should be able to turn it on when you want to turn it on. That is the crux of the issue. My car has an automatic mode, but it comes on regardless of being in auto mode. Recommending leaving it on all the time is dumb in my humble opinion, so do these people drive around with windows open and AC running? I guess????

On my 2024 hybrid…. if I have the AC OFF when I stop the truck when I turn it on, it’s still OFF. if I left the AC on when I stopped the truck when I turn it on….AC is ON. Same thing on my F250. One difference though might be …..are you remote starting the truck? If you’re remote starting a few things change, I think it activates the heated seats, heat steering wheel and heater based on the temperature outside and also the AC seats and the AC if it’s hot out.

Thank you for the help..I am looking for any help from experienced members but no I am not remote starting the truck. I have actually turned off anything possible from auto updates, modem auto headlights. If I turn off the AC that might work but I do want the fresh air fan flowing air and that turns it back on. I tried that last night after seeing some people mention turning off AC altogether but that also turns off the fresh air fan. Still open to any thoughts but right now every time I start the truck I have to release the silly parking brake, turn off stop start, turn off AC so I can drive with my windows open or just outside air from the fan. This is not convenient, if that is what they were trying to do. There was nothing wrong with the older method of turning AC on when you want it or putting in automatic ac mode. All my other 6 cars, yes I have 7 cars now with the Maverick work fine. I have no issue in automatic mode if it does this.

Set fan speed to whatever.
Set vent selection to whatever you want.
Set temp to Lo.
Confirm NO recirc if wanting outside air of course.
Confirm Auto is NOT pressed. It shouldn't be coming back on if it was turned off with truck off.

Turn HVAC off and then truck off with those settings.
Should remain when turning truck on, and then HVAC back on.
If it does that right - test just turning truck off, and then back on. Should really hold too.
That way not messing with HVAC off/on.

Those settings use outside air.
Unless the AC button is pushed - then AC is turned on as you'd expect.

Now, this does NOT prevent the hvac system from turning on the AC in the background if the humidity is seen as too high - which it could if windows open and just right temp.
But when this happens, the AC button is not enabled - AC is just running, so it may be felt, until it turns off. In EB you may hear compressor, hybrid never have.
But if driving in those specific probably not likely conditions with windows open - turn off the hvac.

There are times the AC button will enable.
My son yesterday understood the Lo for outside air, and set fan speed - but failed to select vent, not sure what default was at that temp, I think still on defrost and foot vent, but I was comfy so not paying attention. On startup later without everything selected and humid in cabin - AC button was enabled. I disabled and selected upper vent.
I don't recall ever seeing that happen when I actually had all selections done.
But if I don't have it totally in manual mode (3 selections), it seems AC button could be enabled if conditions right.
But unless I hit a glitch, I don't believe I've seen it otherwise.
