Hey all,

Recently, my hybrid Mav would turn the AC on despite the AC button not lit up, the vehicle is not in defrost mode or auto temp, and it would only do this when it is Southern California "cold" outside (45-60). This is an intermittent problem and sometimes clicking the AC button and then again turns the AC off but then it would turn itself on again minutes later.

Has anyone encountered this issue and if so, have any ideas on fixing it? I want to avoid the local dealership because they are not competent so I do not want them to touch my car. Thanks!

I've never heard of this when not in auto, but it will do this in FULL auto. My 2017 Focus ST did the same thing when in full auto mode for the climate control.

There is a humidistat in the truck and when temperature and humidity are such that condensate MAY FORM the Bullwinkle (Mr know it all) computer will turn on defroster to prevent windows from fogging over!

Mine does this. I dont like it.

Also the temperature "number" on the screen does not mean much.

This truck runs like the thermostat in your home. Set it to 72 and it blows full heat until the cabin gets to 72. I don't like that. I want 72 degree air to come out of the vents dammit! Cold air / AC same thing.

Much prefer the traditional method of old school analog "blend door".

I find on a 40 degree day I have to set it to 60 or 61 to keep from roasting. In September I had to set it to 78 to keep from freezing. The heat is powerful and the A/C is powerful. Just the "control" of it is the worst of any car or truck I've had since 1977.

It always seems to be all or nothing in mine. I can't get that perfect temperature blend. It's like filling the bathtub with one faucet at a time. Add 2 minutes of pure hot, then 2 minutes of pure cold, then 2 minutes of pure hot, then 2 minutes of pure cold. Sure, the "average" might be 72 degrees. But it is not pleasant. And hella annoying to me.

Yeah, I'm still working thru this myself. I'm going to try the auto on low speed to see if the temp is more like I'm used to since I can't control when the AC turns on anyway...

I wonder if the lariat functions differently because my climate control has never left the full auto setting since I got the truck in April and it's great. I range the temp from 68 to 72. I've always been perfectly comfortable and never heard a complaint from a passenger

Same here and for a decade prior on mk3 Foci also with dual-zone electronic auto temp control. 68-72ºF is right where mine usually stay with little fussing around.

Yes. Had a 2020 Sonata that had this.

Even if you don't have it on full auto the system is going to try and maintain that temp setting, so it will switch from heat to ac as needed.

Lots of vehicles turn on the A/C when you operate the defog/defrost because it removes humidity from the air. Then it blends in more hot air to bring the temp back up to "warming" levels... If you have the automatic temp control, the "system" does this automatically. We haven't had any cold weather (it's been 65-75º here since I got the Mav on Wednesday) so I can't confirm this is what happens with the Mav, but the manual seems to indicate it works this way as well.

I am toying with mine turned auto off then set temp maybe 75-77. Have no idea what's happening but incessant temp changes seem gone. Sometimes 67-68. Seems better. (Maybe when I turn auto on??)

I'm trying use heat and A/C the least possible.

Normally I just want outside air if it's warm-ish and nothing if it's cold ish.
Outside air is free.

Climate control is a power hog and a gas hog. I don't like it coming on by itself.

In summer 10% of your gas can go into cooling. In winter 25% of your gas can go into heating.

I have a feeling the "smart" technology is just working against me. If the truck is far from setpoint, it goes to extreme heating or cooling chasing the setpoint. Probably some people like that. I'd prefer "gentle" heating when desired because I'm wearing a heavy coat, etc.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Maverick concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.
