I installed the hood struts this weekend. Hood lined up perfectly opens and closes fine. Woke up this morning its cold out today hood was giving me problems. The struts are cold and don't give that little bit when you pop the latch . It keeps the hood from releasing on the second pull. I have to press the hood down and release it multiple times. I will ne sending it back.
You need to get a spring that’ll help with your strut problem. It’s not expensive and easy to install.

For the 6 to 8 times I open my hood a year I think I'll stay with the prop rod.
Simple, easy, cheap and more than likely, I'll never have to replace it for the life of the vehicle.

Check out these videos. The poster identified the problem as to why these add on strut kits have operational issues. He also came up with a fix that just might make it reliable! 1) the install. 2) his solution His fix combined with a pair of properly power matched struts for the hood weight just make it reliable!

That's one of those mods that sounds like more trouble than it's worth. The factory support strut works fine.
There are no factory support struts, which is why people are installing these

Was there something wrong with the originals ?
The original struts? Mavericks don't come with hood struts, just hinges and the prop rod. It is a common thread that re-starts about every time someone buys and installs the aftermarket kits.
My hood won't open...have to take it to the dealer.

The hood isn't designed structurally for support struts, so naturally there will be issues.

Agreed! Not only does a hood with support struts require more hood strength where the struts attach, but it MUST have a spring assisted 'pop open' functionI to lift it slightly and allow the strut geometry alignment into the 'aligned to open vs aligned to close geometry!'
IMHO, Strut-less hoods are just one more example of how auto designers save $$$ in production cost (by eliminating expensive parts), while increasing the total cost for the vehicle! Give the buyer less and charge them more! What a concept (to which most buyers are blind to)!
