I’m getting a 23 Maverick Tremor and want to swap out the tires would 255/65R17 be too big OR look to small since it comes with a lift?

255 will clear the suspension on stock wheels, but I have no idea about the fender liner clearance with 255/65-17.

buy a set of tires from Discount Tire and have them test fit one on the front (steering locked both directions) and rear. you're out that labor if you need to exchange them, and that's it. you won't be able to see where the tire is at under full compression, though.

This is 255/65R17 AT4w on an FX4 with 2” lift. They did not rub at stock height. The lift was added for ground clearance, not for tire clearance. They won’t rub on the tremor as well. The 265/65/17 is reported to have minor rubbing on the liner when backing up and turning on uneven terrain.

I’ve got 265/60/18 more n my stock xl. It made it a few days before everything settled then I had slight rub on the inner fender. You should clear with the tremor lift. Mine is so very little I’m on my second set. I got 50 k on the first set and had decent tread left. Just wanted new rubber for the spring mud

That lift looks so good. I would love the extra ground clearance for sure.
How did it hurt fuel mileage? When you drive 60-80k a year that does matter a bit

I can’t give you a truthful answer because I don’t know the truth. It’s all hypothesizing and conjecture.

The stock trip computer reads 10% higher than actual.

The mpg read out with oversized tires is 5.3% lower than stock because of the increased diameter.

My mileage is always horrible because I’m frequently on boost in town, while reaching 10-15 mph over the speed limit and I’m always doing 15 mph over the speed limit on the freeway.

It is typical for my trip computer to show 14 mpg city and 24 mpg hwy. Part of it is my driving style, part of it is that the oversized AT4W tires weigh 40 lbs, which really eats into your mpg when doing stops and starts. Part of it is that the Speedo is off by 5.3%. And the extra air going under the vehicle from the lift kit definitely eats into your mpg at freeway speeds.

My best educated guess is that if you already have oversized tires and you installed the 2” lift kit, your city mpg change would be negligible and that you’d lose 1-2 mpg at 65 mph and 2-4 mpg at 80 mph, depending on how windy it is. If you’re doing 80 and also dealing with a 40 mph head wind, your mpg losses will be exaggerated by the lift kit.
