We used to race at a local track that used old Toyota corollas. My dad replaced the front suspension with Toyota Corolla rear end. The motor was a 22-R from the Celica I wrecked. Custom carb, the primaries and secondaries opened together, and since it was pre smogged, it was tuned really nice. Had a ton of power for that old hunk of metal. Way more than the straight 6 it came with. Autometer gauges and a custom dash. Looked like a race car on the inside minus the roll cage. It was a blast to drive.
The absolute gutless car that we had was a 1982 Merc. Cougar. Station Wagon. Pretty car and it rolled fine enough but the V6 was coupled with a freeway final drive ratio and with 3 Cat converters, it was choking and couldn't get out of it's own way. It wasn't the Mercury version of the Mustang, it was a glorified Ford Fairmont.

Haha, my sister had a 1980 something escort wagon. That thing was gutless.

ha....Gutless but economical. I had a few after my Merc. Lynx 4 spd. Bwfore that it was a '66 Polara 383 2 barrel (that's apparently now in great condition.)

Oh no doubt it's a problem. But it's problem that works against any and everything pretty equally in my case. I even apply that line of thinking to myself. I would say rather than fundamental attribution error, I'm closer to someone who catastrophizes worse than anyone you've ever met. I'll hear a belt squeak in my car and worry that this is where it starts, my car's deteriorating condition.

Frankly, I've tried to overcome it many times, I just don't know how. Not fun to live that way, but it is what it is. That's one of the reasons why I'm reluctant to get rid of my maverick. One, our '22 has been pretty flawless, so I don't want to sell it because other people are having issues. But secondly, knowing my brain, I'll seek out new forums for whatever car I replaced the maverick with, and start the cycle of worrying all over again about the things that might happen.
So.... Since the hybrid maverick has no belt to squeak your "OMG it's falling apart string will never get plucked"?

I know a lot of us complain about certain short comings with the maverick, the noisy interior, all the recalls, etc. I've done it myself quite a bit. But there are vehicles you drive, that make you say "The maverick is actually a damm great vehicle for what it is". Vehicles that are so bad, they make you gain a renewed appreciation for your maverick.

The Toyota 4-runner is one such vehicle. Not the version that just came out, but the dinosaur, the generation that was on sale from like 2009-2023. We just rented one, and it was a truly abysmal vehicle. The three row had zero cargo space, maybe six inches on rear cargo space behind the third row, and no, that's not an exaggeration.

The seats felt like molded plastic on the most uncomfortable amusement park ride you've ever been on. The truck was extremely harsh over any and all bumps it came across. It accelerated like a slug, but drank gas like no other, it was hard to see out of. Not to mention everytime you got in, you how to crouch at a 45 degree angle to avoid hitting your head on the roof, while also climbing up into this monster truck abomination.

It rattled and buzzed like no tomorrow, and had multiple things broken on it despite being basically brand new. The only benefit about it was because it was a rental, there were zero repercussions with abusing the shit out of it.
Yeah I think once you go 40 plus miles per gallon it's hard to go back. Since my son has been driving my VW Golf a decent bit since he got his license I've been driving my old 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe. I really been enjoying driving a manual transmission, rear wheel drive etc but the sub 20 miles per gallon has me thinking more and more about a hybrid. Haven't even driven a Maverick yet but I'm lurking on this forum a lot and I've sat in a few. I realize it's cheap for a truck but not as cheap as it was I do wish Ford would use a little better materials. I guess once you put the title truck on a vehicle it's automatically more money as if the bed is made out of unobtanium or diamonds. I've been pricing out a decently equipped Maverick hybrid and I'm getting the price around the mid 30s for what I want. If I'm being honest I was in a new Honda Accord hybrid, my Uber drivers, on the 4th and the quality of the materials and the smooth quiet ride we're pretty impressive. My wife, son and his girlfriend (both 17 so don't usually notice things that aren't on their phone....) all commented on it. Now I know when the Maverick came out it was about five grand cheaper so maybe that explains the materials but I can't imagine it's that much more to manufacture than the Honda at a similar price point for sale.

Pretty much 😂. 4 runner and Tacoma owners act like they're hot shit, when in reality, they're just shit. They really don't excell in any area, not even in the reliability department. They're reliable, about the same reliability rating as a maverick 85/100 for the maverick and 87/100 for the 4 runner. But unlike a maverick, they aren't really good anywhere else.
Funny you say that. A buddy of mine who lives around the corner and works with me has it tacoma. An older one but he loves them and I remembered the one I had when I was 21 fondly but that's for some reasons I can't list here....... But I have occasionally written in it with him to work and I'm 6 ft 2 in and I find it almost unbearable just for a 10-minute ride. It's like the seat cushion to the floor is only 8 in or something and my knees are up high. It fits him better I guess cuz he's a lot shorter than me but with the old body on frame structure it just feels like an old rattler.

Nah, it's more like I'll hit a bump and my dash with thump noticably, and I'll think that.
