Clicking/popping noises after sitting for a bit

That's a lousy description of the noise, but I can't think of a better way to describe them.

I drove to pick up my wife, turned the engine off and sat and waited for her.
After a minute or so I started hearing some clicking/popping (again, sorry for the description).
My wife said she heard them a day or so ago when I went in a restaurant to pick up our dinner.

Does anyone have any idea what those noises might be?

This is totally normal for Hybrid vehicles. To make my answer really short, it's your computer. Sometimes it will click and clack up to 20 minutes after sitting. My Prius did the same thing. Nothing to worry over.

heck my non-hybrids did clicks, pops, and whirrs too after the vehicle was shut off. it's things like the engine cooling down, valves and vents closing, etc.

Interesting. I've never had a vehicle do this before (Unless I've been totally unobservant and am just hyper-alert to this one).

After you lock up the truck, the computer goes thru a complete diagnostic overview of your trip. It's checking the life of your oil, how long it took to get your engine warm, stop and go driving, gas mileage............basically it's optimizing your driving habits and keeping track of how your driving affects the oil so that it can tell you when the oil is due to be changed. It does a lot of investigating after shutdown. My Prius did the same thing. Todays cars keep diagnostics so when we take them in for repairs, the mechanic can get an idea of what is going on. I'm not an expert in this, I just learned about this when I had my Prius. Once, when I took it in for routine maintenance, I asked the mechanic and he explained it to me pretty much just like I did here for you. Hope this helps.

I looked.
My searches came up with no results.
As soon as I posted this, they came up at the bottom.
I guess it's a finicky search.

The term is relays clicking.
