Here is what I did for extra KeyFobs. My 2023 Lariat Maverick has push button starting. I had 3 keyfobs but thought I lost one so I orderd two new ones but then found my 3rd keyfob. You can ONLY program 4 keyfobs into the Maverick. I tried to program the 5th keyfob and the truck informed me that the Maximum number had been reached. I do not know how you would remove any old lost programmed keys – it may require a dealer or special tool. So I now have 5 cut keys with 4 of them fully functional and programmed. The 5th one I keep in case I can ever use it.

The total cost for the two keyfobs and cutting the blades was 33.80 and 36.74 – approximately $72. It was cheaper last year by about $20 but thanks to trumpie the prices jumped up from the tariffs. The key cutting service provides you with replacement blades for your keyfob - identical to the ones in them but cut for you. They cut my blades using the pictures of the key cut that I sent them.

Maverick Pushbutton Start Keyfob Programming by owner – requires two working keyfobs

It is very easy to program a third key...Especially on hands-free push button start...open the center storage console, lift out the cardboard bottom and you will see a key indentation in the plastic. Put first programmed key in slot and push button to power up, but NO FOOT on brake, after 5 seconds, shut off power. Remove first key and put second key in same spot within 10 seconds and do same procedure, then finally do same for third key - if the programming works, you will get a Key Programmed message in the message center. Repeat procedure several times if needed to get it to work. Make sure all doors are closed and no pedals are touched. Car is never started during this process. Repeat the process for the fourth key if needed. Just remember if you lose a key it is still programmed in the car but still counts towards that maximum of 4 keys.

Programming for certain Chevys – same procedure as above basically but this can also be followed for the Maverick key programming too.

NOTE: This procedure works only if the spare key programming is enabled. By default it is on the Maverick.

NOTE: Two previously programmed keys are required to perform this procedure. All the steps must be completed within 30 seconds.

NOTE: Make sure all the doors are closed prior to beginning this procedure and they remain closed until the procedure is complete.

Locate the passive key backup starting location. Refer to the Owner Literature for the passive key backup starting location. For the Maverick it is at the bottom of the center console.

Place the first programmed passive key in the backup starting location. Press the START/STOP button.

Wait 5 seconds and then press the START/STOP button.

Remove the first previously programmed passive key.

Within 10 seconds, place the second previously programmed passive key in the backup starting location and press the START/STOP button.

Wait 5 seconds and press the START/STOP button.

Remove the second previously programmed passive key.

NOTE: See the Owner's Literature for maximum number of keys that can be programmed to the vehicle. For the touchless keyfob option it is 4.

Wait 5 seconds and then place the unprogrammed passive key in the backup starting location and press the START/STOP button.

NOTE: If the key does not successfully program, wait at least 10 seconds before attempting to repeat the procedure. If the maximum number of keys has been programmed the center console will display Maximum keys programmed.

Verify the RKE transmitter operates and the vehicle starts using the new passive key. Test door locking and unlocking.

Thank you for documenting this. Do you, by chance, have the procedure to do the same on non-push button start?

No but I think you still need two keys to configure additional keys for the ability to actually start a car. It may be the same procedure used on the Mustangs. I can't recall. Some of the procedures that don't require additional keys may be for programming only the keyfob buttons to work with the car but that procedure may not program the key passive transceiver for starting the car into the ECM. Your procedure may be in the manual. Mine was not.

If you don't find anything I can probably find my 2010 Mustang process since a lot of the keyed processes have not changed in years.

Same procedure for keyed Mavs. 1st programmed key, turn ignition to On (not start), then off. Then 2nd programmed key to On, then off. Then do new key to On, then off. Should get successful message in dash cluster.
I have this scanner that has key programming listed. I have not used it for that since I have 4 programmed keys but it looks like I could remove a lost key using the scanner. The scanner also does Brake Service Mode. Pretty good scanner for the price.

1st post in:
How to Save $$ Money $$ on Keys by Programming Yourself -- From a Locksmith and Owner :)

“To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.”

Valuable information here . . . thanks for sharing.

Look at the MHZ of your key fob, in my case is 315MHZ, you need to match the MHZ range

I have a more expensive lauch for my other cars but did not try it on the Maverick. I may look into it to see the options. I just get nervous using some of these programming tools on the cars ECM and don't want to brick it. I had issues on a GT500 and thought I had bricked the ECM ($1500 if one can even be found now) but was able to reset it eventually and get it back..nerve racking.

Yes. At least I know I did for our 2022 XL. Dealer cut the key for free then I did the very easy programming myself.
