Well, I read somewhere, maybe here I dunno, that Ford has or is planning on signing an agreement with Global Foundries to produce their chips for them. GF is a cutting edge company so i cannot imagine them making anything but good stuff.
I read that as well, and I think that's a good move. Unfortunately in this go around the horses have already left the barn. And I do think there will be a next time because even if this was not bioterism this go around, in the future we will have to deal with that I suspect.
Here's the press release from Global Foundries. They have signed a non-binding agreement with Ford. The real hope is that they will design and produce chips specifically designed for Ford vehicles to reduce their dependency on a supply chain that involves competition with other automotive and non-automotive manufacturers.

Myself and a acquaintance ordered the exact same truck 3 months apart. I ordered mine in July (7.4.21) he ordered his in October. We ordered them from two different dealers. Other than we ordered on different dates and from two different dealers the trucks are identical. He has his truck as of a week ago, I'm yet to get a build date. Now the typical holier than thou curmudgeons that love to post their mostly unhelpful opinions seem to think it's my fault for not researching better. Somehow I should have known all about allocations. I do not believe I should need to learn the minutiae dealership bureaucracy to order and buy a vehicle. If such knowledge of said minutiae is required, then that should be posted at the dealership and on the Ford website and made clear. Here's the point that all the pontificators and curmudgeons seem to miss... When I spoke to customer service yesterday, their first response was the pandemic and shortage of parts, blah blah blah blah... And I do understand that somewhat.... However, when I point out to them somebody that lives in the same city as I do, who ordered the exact same vehicle I ordered 3 months after I ordered mine and has received their vehicle already and I yet to have it build date....that's when the CSR owned up to allocation. My ordering a truck that is not going to be floored (put on the lot) should have nothing to do with how many vehicles that dealers is entitled to (allocated) from what they normally get to sell off the lot. The two should not be connected. It's BS that it is. I should have been provided information about allocation and how that may affect my order and the delivery of said order so I could have made an informed choice, I was not. Although I think it's a bit underhanded, I understand why the dealer in particular one that doesn't have a larger allocation might not be very forthcoming with the allocation information. However, that does not excuse Ford corporate. My complaint has nothing to do with me being needy, has nothing to do with being impatient, because of my employment I'm very aware of what it takes to ramp up production. My purchasing the Maverick is a strictly business decision. I was told to expect the vehicle within 60 days once production started. I made business decisions based upon what I was told. Again, I will point out I don't even have a build date yet and customer service is telling me I should not expect to have the vehicle until April 2022 at the soonest.
And again, I will bring up the 7 P's. Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. I think Ford has missed the mark in how they ramped up. I think their communication has been horrid. And, since I own more Ford stock (10,000 shares) than probably 99.9% of people that are on this form, I think I have a right to call Ford to task (here and directly) because I have actually put my money where my mouth is regarding Ford.
Did that answer your question?
I think you have articulated exactly the issues that Ford did not make clear to the masses that ordered a Maverick. I'm willing to bet that a large portion of folks who ordered never heard of allocations, including myself!! Had I know about this and how it affects delivery, I for one would have certainly looked at the various dealerships to see which had the best allocations so I could decide based on location and allocations before I placed my Maverick order. I totally agree that Ford has not been forthcoming about the ordering process and in turn they have ended up pissing off a lot of customers. Naturally, there are those who say that if I'm not happy I don't have to buy the Maverick, however, Maverick has checked off everything I want/need in a truck. Right now Ford has the market corned, but in the next year or two they will have to do a lot better. I know for myself, if I ever decide to order another vehicle, I will definitely be asking more and better question. So I guess Ford has given me an education on vehicle ordering! Gee, thanks Ford!

Just my 2 cents on this topic is that you have to look at the original 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang which came out in the middle of 1964 to make a better comparison. According to a quick Google search, there were roughly 121,000 Mustangs built in 1964. That makes it much closer to what Ford is trying to do with the Maverick. I will say that I am personally not in a huge rush for a new car yet, so I am willing to wait for my truck to be built and I understand your frustrations since I am not the most patient person out there. I ordered my truck at the end of September and I've heard articles stating that I may not see any updates on my build until the end of April. Either way, we are in a waiting game at this point, so my plan is to lock in and secure my financials so that I can handle paying for this new vehicle.

So exact same truck. The differences are date of order and dealership.

Good luck to your 10,000 shares. Glad to see Ford didn’t make us disclose our ownership stake when ordering to give preference to such large owners.

I picked them up last year when Ford was at $5 a share. Ford is now in 20 and change. I am pleased. Of course if I had put that money in Bitcoin or a couple of the other cryptos I'd probably had turned that into a million or so. I'm old school, and it cost me big time. Oh well. I have a good life, I'm blessed. Regarding being a shareholder and getting special privileges, cutting in line, that's just not my style. If such a perk existed, I would not partake in it.

Hey everyone, new here. Just wanted to inject my thoughts for a second, and you all might tell me I full of it and don't know what I am talking about and you might be right.

I was doing research on the Maverick, trying to figure out the ordering, and allocation thing, and I decided to finally pull the trigger and order one Dec 27th. I ordered an XLT/lux package, EB, AWD, 4k, fx4, ditched the black rims that come with the fx4 and got the 800 dollar upgrade rims, in hot pepper red, with moonroof.

So here was my thoughts, called the small local dealer, and told me 6-9 months for the truck I wanted. Called the big Ford dealer 30 miles east of me and told me 3-4 months but I have been watching and they have never advertised a Maverick. So I called a dealer 50 miles to the south because they have had Mavericks in and advertised them on the web with no markups, so I decided to order with them, and they told me 3-4 months too.

So here is my thoughts and the position I am in, and everyone is in different situations I realize. I had a rough summer financially, and I am starting to get things back straight, so I am using this 3-4 month period to get the credit cleaned back up and credit cards paid off, and putting money away for a down payment so the payments are as affordable as possible. The dealer request a 500 refundable deposit, and it was made clear to me that money would be used towards the purchase of the vehicle, so threw 1,000 dollars deposit at it when I ordered, anything to help me so I don't have to finance as much when it comes to sign papers.

So I guess what I am saying is maybe is use this time to open up a savings and use that as Maverick fund and put money away for a bigger down-payment or money for tax and title or some goodies for your new Maverick, or maybe you all are better off financially then me and got money in the bank, just my 2 cents. Hope you all have a great New Year!

I wonder how many computer chips that 1966 Mustang required? Also you are not in "month 6" unless you're counting months where production wasn't even started. Production started mid-September. You knew this ahead of time. You're in month 3.

These posts are exhausting.

As someone else said - if Ford is doing a terrible job, tell them so with your dollars and buy something else.
Add to the fact that back in 1966, most everything in the U.S. was built in the U.S.. We didn't have like 85% of our products made in China, so everything we needed to build a car in 1966 was made/produced here.

I sounds like you are doing some solid planning for this purchase. But you might want to check and see if you have your price locked in on your new Maverick.

You're new to the forum so you may not have seen all the posts about dealers blindsiding buyers with "additional dealer markup" when their truck arrives.

For more info, search this forum for the terms "additional dealer markup," "ADM," and "Buyer's Order."
