Safe to assume that the third shift is being added because some of the supply chain issues have subsided. You simply do not add another shift just for shits and giggles. Either way this hopefully is a good sign that maybe some people will actually receive their orders in 2023

The question is what is in short supply for the hybrid? The battery or the HF 35 or is it HF 45 hybrid transaxle ? That are built in MI at Van Dyke plant. I still say its better to drop ONE F 150 lightening 98 KW battery to build 89 hybrid Mavericks 1.1 kw battery for the most profit.

Since they are adding the 3rd shift they MUST have the parts to build at least the Ecoboost ones. . Ford isn't that dumb. No idea if just more Ecos or maybe more of both?

what makes you think they haven't been trying desperately to address this the whole time? "Assuming parts availability increased" is the fatal flaw in your thinking here. When the whole world's economies shut down, many supporting businesses at all levels shut down forever and aren't coming back.
Because ford is a global major streamline motor company and we would've seen something if they were really trying to address the constraint. It's not like local mom n pop auto shop lacking nuts n bolts. Its a leading figure in motor company/truck manufacturer with supply chains and business support from all over the world.

If ford was really trying to solve the issue, it would be. Every car makers are experiencing the covid backlash, but ford is literally the only motor company with this back logged hybrid orders.

Do you see people waiting years for a hybrid Accord? Hybrid Sportage?

Desire to sell more hybrids.
This.

ford already makes money from ecoboost orders, what's in it for them to make hybrid? its a company. It wants our money but doesn't care about customer satisfaction.

Because it has many thousands of hybrids SOLD already. So why put effort into building the ones that are not sold yet to go sit on dealer lots.

correction: they likely have commitments for deliveries of parts from vendors and suppliers in their supply chain. Ford does not stockpile parts in warehouses to build "X" number of vehicles, but rather depends on Just In Time deliveries of parts to the factory as needed/promised to build. If suppliers miss promise dates all bets are off.

Ford is literally the only company building hybrid compact trucks too. They don't have "back logged" orders either- as that would imply they could and wanted to build unlimited numbers of hybrid trucks.

That's not the point. ford has the insfrastructure to build hybrid mavericks and capital to ease constraint. Yet, we see no evidence of them attemting to address the situation. No articles, no rise in production and more orders not being fulfilled.

To answer your original comment, as ordinary customer there is absolutely no situational evidence that ford is even trying to address the issue.

edit: For all we know and judging from how ford has been treating its customers, the 3rd shift is soley for dealer stock ecoboosts and the hybrid situation is still a clusterfuck. What do you have to suggest that ford is actually trying to solve the issue?

Companies don't always publicize the internal workings of their procurement processes and manufacturing capabilities in real time. I don't find it unusual us non-employees aren't seeing any evidence of what they are or are not doing wrt hybrids. All speculation and conjecture here.

Yes, thats true.

However, there are always subtle indirect evidences such as related stocks or news leaks or whatever.

The only "official" evidence we have to see is the number of hybrid orders being fulfilled, but that currently going out the window.

edit: if ford was really trying to fix it, won't they advertise "hey! we can make more hybrids now so come and make more orders so we can make more money from you!"

Ford Edge, here I come!
Test drove a '22 Edge ST-Line, very nice! Dealer said to hang in there though, look for a notice in February. If not, he'll put me in an Edge.

Considering they're some 100% oversold there's no need to re-open orders. So the only evidence we'd see is if the scheduling % changes.

You assume Ford makes any profit on Maverick Hybrid....I doubt they do. I'm sure they are sold at a loss so Ford can meet CAFE standards - there is zero incentive to build more than they mathematically need to.

this third shift could easily be needed if Ford introduces a "wow" model '24, orders starting this summer.

Something like an AWD hybrid or a PHEV. This last one almost a given, we saw the spy shots last year.
