Ford to suspend production on Friday at Mexico plant on materials shortage

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co will temporarily suspend production on Friday at its Hermosillo plant in Mexico’s Sonora state due to a shortage of materials, the plant’s labor union said on Thursday.

Workers will be paid 75% of salaries on Friday, the union added.

Ford had also suspended production from Oct. 11-12 at its Hermosillo plant, where it makes its Bronco Sport SUV and Maverick compact pickup.

The union did not specify which materials were in short supply, but other automakers have been struggling with a chip shortage as manufacturers shifted production toward parts needed for laptop computers, cellphones and video games during the pandemic.

Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Earlier this month, Ford said it would suspend production at its Flat Rock, Michigan, plant and at parts of its Kansas City, Missouri, plant.

My fist truck was supposed to have been built 10/4 but is still showing in production. It shown in production since 9/29.

I think it’s been lost in the factory somewhere.

So, out of 5 days this week….2 build days. Wow! Looks like I’m cutting the back off of my Yugo to make a truck bed. I guess I’ll just connect the rust holes.

Well, it looks like this was hopefully just an extension of the two day shutdown already happening this week. Of course mine was scheduled for build this week ....now slid to next week (hopefully no longer).

So I’m guessing it’s a yes on having to wait until Monday for my truck to finish being built.

I’m okay with that, since it got started early, it would just be nice to know.

Mine was in production for 15 days.

Mine was scheduled week of 10/4, build date listed was 10/8 but actual build date was 10/13 and build confirmation email received this morning but tracker still shows in build mode. Estimated delivery to PA is 11/12 to 11/16. Be patient...easier said than done, I know!

So, what you're saying is that the dates aren't anywhere near as accurate as we thought they would/should be. I"m not going to complain if everything gets done sooner.

I’m not sure I buy into the work shutdowns. According to the threads, Ford was suppose to be shutdown Monday & Tuesday as well as Friday. Yet my Maverick was built this week on schedule. Received the built email this morning!

And I bet it was dates 10/14. They worked 10/13 & 10/14.
