Hi fellow club members,

While I was completing the paperwork , the dealer offered me a 3 year maintenance plan for $299. It includes 6 Oil + Filter change, 6 Tire rotations, 2 State Inspections (TX). I agreed to it at that time however I am now re-thinking it. On paper its looks value for money however I dont drive the truck so much. Not even 1000 miles a month. Given that the oil replacement interval is 10K miles I am wondering I will only use it may be twice in 3 years.
Although I did not ask however I am sure dealer will use conventional oil.

What do you suggest should I keep it?

Synthetic oil change is what, $45-$50 each? So maybe worth $150 at best? Not sure what use the state inspections are? Do you have to get them done regularly in TX?

Just think, if the dealer is offering it, then there's no way you will come out ahead on that lol. But if you're not someone who does their own maintenance then you may consider 299 a deal.

I would agree with you that the dealer will probably use conventional oil. I would never allow conventional in any of my vehicles.... synthetic is far superior in every category and the Walmart brand supertech cannot be beat price wise

WHA???? I pay $100 each time on my FIT full synth change. Don’t get me started on my Harley- my mechanic thinks that thing is fancy (he should- he built it lol- $150 a crack).

I was like, how in the world is it so expensive for this guy... then I saw your location 🤣

My local walmart does oil changes, 5qt full synthetic (mobile 1 oil and filter) for $45. I don't use them because I would never trust a walmart tech, but its cheap.

If I don't feel like doing it myself, my mechanic does it for $20 and I supply the oil/filter.

Dealers use "services" as an opportunity to sell you something else.

If you are changing your oil every 10k miles you are in for bad times with this truck. Those ultra high mileage oil changes are baloney and too long of an interval. Get your oil changed every 5k miles or less no matter what oil you use.

I would not you would be stuck with that dealer for oil changes because it’s not transferable and if you included it with the financing of truck your paying more

Does not seem that far out of line for 6 oil change & tire rotation. At $40.00 a pop = $240.00 plus inspections.

Dealer will be using MFG recommended oil and filter. Usually a syn blend. I normally use that time to drink their coffee and check out any new vehicles if they have any...... :)

Plus zero clean up in your garage and no driving up to a facility that takes old oil.

Make sure you can use it whenever you want to and not based on the cars readout. If you can do it whenever I would keep it and change the oil every 5k or 6 months to get full use out of it. I would do a minimum of 3 changes because you should NOT run oil more than 12 months.

The ecoboost gets motorcraft synthetic blend and the hybrid gets motorcraft full synthetic.

Anyone remember the "Good Ole Days" when some dealers offered FREE Oil CHANGES for as long as you owned any new car purchased from them?

Yes, they are required annually in Texas as part of the auto registration process. It's termed a 'safety inspection', but with Covid, it's somewhat of a farce. All they did on my last one was to check lights, and wipers while I sat in the car. Prior to that, they did a short parking lot drive to make sure that the brakes work. Some large metro areas also require an emissions test. FWIW, the standard inspection is only $7, I don't know what the emissions tests cost.

I was offered the same thing in September when I purchased the Bronco Sport. I declined. What I started to do was use the Ford Visa Rewards Credit Card for every purchase. We’ve done this with another card to earn cash back for a number of years now. Do this and the points (cash) adds up. As of today I now have over $400 dollars in Ford rewards. Had the oil changed last week at 5,000 miles in the BS and used this to pay for it. I’ll be using this as well for accessories once my Maverick arrives.
Note: it’s very important to be disciplined and pay off the balance every month. Last thing you want is to be paying those monthly interest charges.

Agree, the key is, if they let you get the service every six months, regardless of miles. Read the fine print very carefully.

If so, and you are not a DIY guy, I would keep it. If it's based on OLM (oil life monitor) timing, I would get a refund.
