Here are some tricks I use day to day that can help you get the best MPG possible in the Hybrid.

Use the EV Coach. This screen will show you how much electric power and regen you can use. By using this feature, you can reduce the amount of time you spend with the engine on.

While eco mode is intended to be the most fuel-efficient mode, normal mode or slippery mode can actually be better depending on how you drive. I would use eco mode on long highway trips with cruise control.

Don't accelerate hard, but don't be afraid to keep up with traffic either. Your goal is to get up to speed and use electric mode until your battery needs charged.

When you are just slightly over your desired cruise speed, let off the throttle until it quickly shows “charge” and then gently apply throttle less than 10% power. It should say “electric”. Hold the throttle steady state and continue your cruise (even if you lose a little bit of speed over time) until the engine comes on. The battery charges pretty quickly, and you should be able to cruise on electric again after 20 seconds or so.

Cruise control can be less efficient than manually controlling your speed, but you can still use it to your advantage. Set the speed for 1 mph over your desired speed, and on a flat or slight downgrade, lower the speed by one, and it should automatically engage electric mode.

Generally, driving slower will help you get better gas mileage. Stay in the right lane and drive the speed limit or 5 over. Stoplight to stoplight, you'll get there in the same time as rushing, trust me.

Even if you lose a little speed up hills, try to use a steady throttle. It's pretty efficient, and you can see the engine hold get 20-25mpg up grades.

LRR tires will probably make a difference, as my heavier all terrain tires made a notable difference. Consider using lighter tires to maximize your fuel efficiency.

I hope these tips help you get the best MPG in your hybrid. Let me know if you have any other tips to share!

happy driving!
This is perfect info

Right now I have a 2.0 EB but have a hybrid on order since the September '22 order window. Am looking forward to trying the tips to get good MPG. Meanwhile, except for a vibration in the dash when I go over rough surfaces, my Mav is perfect. It is just enough truck for what I do. It is enjoyable to drive compared to my 2016 GMC Canyon V6. Easy to reach into the bed. Easy to clean the windshield to the center without a step stool. I do miss the bumper step from my Canyon.

I've had my hybrid for a little over three months now XL with 1 option (hitch package) I had been reading about the outlandish mileage claims for well over a year now. And didn't really believe them. Now? I'm a true believer. I find taking the back roads gives better mileage than the straight shots. With a careful foot, I can run in electric mode MORE than gas! I have a sort of "test run" to my daughter's house and back. 20 miles. I've been able to run 11 and 12 miles in electric. 50+ mpg is readily attainable. I've bested 60 several times.
In the last week, I made two 350 mile round trips on the expressway. Cruise set at 68. Combined mpg for both trips? 38.9. Couldn't be happier. And as others stated, the cruise functions better than anything else I've driven.

ahh, that was another question of mine... every vehicle I've ever owned... the rule was DON'T start it and drive immediately... let it idle for at least a minute maybe two to let the oil circulate and warm up a little... the most wear occurs on startup... but this hybrid, can I just start it and drive immediately? When I start it.... the ICE is not running... so how do I give it that minute we've always given our cars?
Nope. This rule is only applies on 2 stroke engine. It's been over 50 years since that engine was created.

OK, so what I noticed is if you set your dial to eco mode it will apply engine brake when you let the gas pedal go. It will start braking and actually you will loose you're speed when going don't the hill. Eco mode gives you faster battery recharge. Compare to eco which is actually way more efficient.

On short trips don't use the HVAC... I have noticed I can drive as much as 1.5miles at 30mph from my house with HVAC off.

On colder mornings the engine will start while I am rolling down our hill and the energy flow app on the sync 3 says it is running engine for cabin heat.

On my little two mile drive to work I get 30mpg on a cold morning using the normal cabin heat and I get 50mpg using only seat and steering wheel heat.

Could use a bit of guidance on how are you guys achieving 50+mpg on regular basis, as I'm still on my first tank and learned that I am accelerating too slowly and not getting the best mpg while in hybrid mode.

Coming from a limited range EV the slower I accelerate the less energy I pull out of the batteries. But seems like slow acceleration after engine turns on is not the most efficient use of energy. While trying to accelerate in pure Electric is way too slow for OC traffic. what is the most efficient engine power % when accelerating to normal traffic (~55mph) speed? Or are you guys simply accelerating using hybrid mode at normal pace without worrying about power % and only relying Electric mode only to coast and maintain speed?

Good to hear! I JUST filled up for the first time and will try driving it differently from what I've learned from this thread.

Got 665 miles on my very first tank and filled up 13.8 gallon, no idea how "full" it was from the dealer but still worked out to barely over 48mpg in normal mode. Very impressed but I was often times driving annoyingly slow trying to accelerating in Electric mode only. 😅

Actually now thinking about it, I did used remote start to pre-condition the cabin A WHOLE LOT as this is new to me and wanted to keep gf as comfy as possible.

Maybe I'm not as far from 50+mpg as I thought, though it's nice to get assurance I don't need to accelerate at turtle pace and piss off other cars behind me.

Thanks!

You don't have to accelerate slow.

Don't jackrabbit either.

Try for as much coasting as possible.
Also keep it 55 mph and under and you'll have 600 miles per tank, easy.

(and stop doing remote starts)!!

I have found that cruise control actually helps my mileage. At least for my trip to work. It is a mix of highway and in-town. I am running at an average of 42.2 mpg right now. That is over the total 2700 miles I have put on the truck. I don't think that's bad at all.

This!
Both A/C and heat run the gas engine more.
