This is for all the '23 Lariat owners out there.

One of the changes from the '22 to the '23 was the addition of Sync 3 navigation. I don't know why, but I haven't heard anyone discuss it just yet.

If you have a '23 Lariat, have you used the Navigation feature yet?
It's supposed to to be voice-activated as well. Does it work as advertised?

If so, I'd love to hear your comments, thoughts, etc.

I have it. I think it works very well and yes, it is voice activated.
I was curious to know if it also displays turn-by-turn directions in the Instrument cluster, similar to this:

I have it, works as advertised. No display on the gauge screen at all (it's not an audi or VW MMI, ha!), but there are options for 2D or 3D and other split screen on the main nav. Voice commands work ok. It's not google... I can say "navigate home" or "navigate work" and it just goes. You can do addresses by voice, but you can't do random POI, so no "navigate to closest McDonalds". Super easy to cancel a route too. Top right of the main screen is an X, click it and confirm, bam. (Our other vehicles sometime make you hunt 3 screens deep to find it).

It also works with wired android auto, as well as some wireless android auto adapters, if you want to try that instead.

I use a USB drive for my music, pretty much exclusively. I leave it on repeat and shuffle and it just randomly grabs songs, which is exactly what I want. I have seen some discussion of not being able to browse for songs very well, which, at first try on the screen, is quite valid. When you hit browse it shows about a dozen songs and that is it. No artist or genre or folder (which is how mine are organized on the usb, and how my previous vehicle browsed). BUT I'm learning more about the voice commands every day and you can say things like:
Play <song name>
Play <song name> by <artist>
which will either play the song named, or, if there are multiple results, will give a list with line numbers to select. Voice or screen. BUT this will turn your current playlist into a single song, using the aforementioned shuffle and repeat. You have to cancel out of that to get back to a full rotation again.

The cool one I tried today was:
Find music by <artist>
And it gave me an onscreen list of all the albums, which then drilled into the album for song selection.

Play <genre>
is suggested onscreen as well. I should point out that having good ID tags on your audio files is a requirement for all this to function. Just ripping songs from Youtube isn't going to hack it here.

Works well for my purposes!

I used it for the few days before I got my wireless Airplay adapter installed - and have not used it once since... 🤣

For the Turn by turn in the cluster, it doesn't work by default, but there is a thread in the Forscan section where somebody said they got it working - look at the Traffic Sign Recognition Thread... I haven't tried it to see.

From my pov - the Ford nav is just OK. I've used it on other recent Fords and it is the same on the Maverick. The main benefit is that it will work even if your phone is borked, and the maps are built in.

I prefer Airplay because I can use Waze or Apple Maps or Google Maps and set up my route outside the vehicle, plus I can use the same setup on other vehicles instead of putting all my favorite destinations into the vehicle.

Used the navigation on a 650+ mile round trip to northern Wisconsin. Entered addresses using voice commands and toggled between the nav, radio stations and other standard Sync3 features during entire trip. Worked well except sometimes the voice navigation instructions were drowned out by me playing R&R music loudly.

Haven't tried it with USB'ed music yet as I'm old school...still trying to find the non-existent CD player!?! 🤔 😉

I find that all of those systems, while nice to have, don't add much value to me when I have full access to Google Maps and Gaia on my infotainment screen. There's just about nothing that they do better.

I don't always have the address so I use Android Auto using the wireless dongle. Can't see why I would use it unless I had no cell coverage or did not have my phone with me. Google does a good job of figuring out restaurants, stores, and other points of interest.

I had its predecessor in my CMax but was‘t that impressed. Do I now need to buy an airplay adapter? Which one did you get?

Just to clarify, this is only on Lariat Lux package models for 2022/2023 models.
2024 Lariat will have Sync 3 standard along with the $3635-$5135 price increase (depending on drivetrain).

I use the Nav around my neighborhood sometimes if I just go on a joyride and want to find my way home quickly. Its faster than connecting the phone to do the Android Auto. For basically every other situation though I just use AA

This is only for 2023 models. The 2022 didn't have the Nav included in the Sync
