I’ve had my truck for close to 3 months now. Have put on 4848 miles. I commute mostly highway with some city daily. Trying to figure out the feasible gas to buy for the mileage. Initially I ran mid grade (89 octane) and averaged 22-23 and some change mpgs. Then I switched to regular (87) and dropped down to 21 mpgs. Tried super (91) and got 22-23. Got my first oil change and switched back to midgrade and have averaged 24-. Thinking about switching back to regular with these ridiculous gas prices and see if I can squeeze the same mpgs out as midgrade.

A few things I find that really make a difference for mileage with this engine is keeping your foot outta it, using eco drive mode all the time and keeping a max highway speed of 65 mph.

What are you guys with this same drivetrain experiencing?
Also I had a buddy at the dealership tell me I should run midgrade 91 because regular will cause it to knock.

I'm sticking to 87 octane forever. I'll let the other gas 'experts' chime in as to why this is a bad idea...

But what I've noticed is that cold weather really hurts fuel economy. I'm in PA, so this winter has been fairly cold. I'm averaging around 26mpg in ~4500miles that I've driven. When the temp has been over 50, my mpg improves by at least 4mpg. Eco mode had no considerable change in overall tank mpgs and I didn't like the throttle response, so I'm sticking with Normal.

My Wife has 1,769 miles on hers and she’s only getting 20 MPG. That SUCKS and is totally unexpected. It’s the XLT AWD With The Luxury Package. She’s used 87 and 91 octanes and no noticeable improvement at all. She’s mostly highway driving too.

Heater on=drop in mpg
A/c on=drop
Quick take offs at the light =drop
Above 70 mph=drop

I noticed an uptick in mpg when I changed a few habits (except the a/c, still winter in RI, just speculation)
I had a Subaru crosstrek with a similar sized motor, all the same issues. When I drive hard, I pay for it at the pump.

I’m in CO and it’s been really cold (single digits and Negative temps) lately and if been averaging 26mpg on mostly freeway and stop and go traffic at 77mph. Heater on (can’t see how that would make any difference as you’re circulating hot engine coolant) and cruise control when possible. The highest octane we can get here is 91 and that’s what I use.

When it’s 27° compared to 77° your mpg drops roughly 25% the first few miles& still is poor comparatively after that..

My wife gets 2-3 mpg less on her Mercedes ML350 compared to when I drive it. Then she told me she cruises at 80 mph on I 80 to and from work! Jusayin!

Yes, this is about right. Cold weather MPG drop isn't exactly a revelation, but the EB seems to be impacted more by colder temps than my previous vehicle. I also wonder how long it takes for the engine to 'break in' and if mpgs will eventually change when the engine is broken in.

I live in South Dakota and our temps can reached below ZERO at night. The last 2 months I have been averaging 19 mpg with all in town driving (usually 30 mph). The last few days the temp has been above 32 degrees during the day and I am getting 20.4 mpg.

I just fill up and go. I have never bought a vehicle for fuel mileage. That said, I run regular fuel and average 24 mpg. Seems reasonable.

I live in Maine and get about 24mpg on the highway and 22 MPG in the city. I just ticked over 3k miles and I'm debating on getting the first oil change done to see if it improves mileage. I do have the Fx4 package with the Falken Wildpeak tires so I'm wondering if these tires effect the MPG. I admittedly drive fast on the highway which is more than likely also a factor :)

I just got back from a long trip down south. A lot of miles were put on in NEPA before the trip where we were hitting 17 below at night and on the trip we were doing 80 most of the time or driving through small towns. All of this seems like a good average combination for a lower MPG than expected but we got 27.2 using 87 with ethanol. XLT with AWD and lux package.

There’s not many Mavi’s up here is there! So far mines a little better after the oil change. I’m interested to see how it does being back on regular fuel. I’m gonna try a couple weeks of that and see if I can get the same gas mileage as I did with midgrade. I find regardless of the grade of fuel it will still sound like a diesel sometimes.

8500 mile on mine. I commute from NH to MA and back 5 days a week. Ive only run 87 and get a pretty constant 28.5 mpg. Mostly highway with some city/back roads mixed in. Can go up or down depending on my driving but 28.5 seems to be the sweet spot.
