I picked up my 25 AWD hybrid 1/16, and on Sunday the check engine light came on, at under 1900 miles! Of course I was on a trip, but about 200 miles later, the light went off. Got it to the dealership today, and the PCT and an O2 sensor are bad already! New ones will be in next week, and they said there are no problems driving it, so they gave it back. Not a great experience with my first new Ford ... Might explain my mileage issues. I'm only getting 26-32, and in California, it hasn't been much below 50 degrees

Sometimes new parts go bad fast. It's part of mass production, and why new vehicles come with warranties. QA can't catch every unseen part issue.

My HF55 makes some noises when shes cold and twice today in reverse sounded like I was scraping something backing up. Not letting it get in the way of my good Maverick time.

You're absolutely correct.
Being from Flint Michigan my wife's family all work/worked for GM.
My wife's niece-inlaw is a project engineer for Stellantis. She stayed with us for a week last year.
I asked her a question about vendors and costs.
I asked. If you have a vendor with a product of known quality, but they're .25 cents more expensive than a new competitor. Who will Stellantis go with? Her reply was, hands down the cheaper vendor.
We also discussed buttons, switches versus screens. It's all about lowering costs. Software switches VS physical switches/knobs.
We talked about the cost of the Maverick fully rotating gear selector versus one with actual stops for the gears.

When you build things in the tens of thousands, each with thousands of parts, a failure rate of even 1/10th of a percent means someone--- many someones--- will experience a failure.

Ford isn't NASA, where parts are inspected and tested many times before assembly, each with its own paper trail. Ford is more like Boeing, where only the most critical components are so heavily scrutinized. I suspect Ford's standards are not even lower than that, given it's production volumes.

I only mention because I've seen many posts lately by 1st time Hybrid owners that don't realize what the EPA MPG means they will get.

But more importantly - is your mileage so far almost all highway speeds?

But indeed bad O2 sensor and therefore bad fuel usage can cause that effect - as well as shorten life of catalytic converter dealing with extra unburned fuel if it was going that direction.

ETA - since your MIL went back off after more driving, almost assuredly not that bad.
