Yesterday I awakened to a deep sleep alert. This after a 90 mile trip the previous afternoon. I was unable to start the vehicle and a voltage check revealed 7.2 volts. My jumper pak didn’t help so I called AAA and theirs got it started.

Turns out the service department at Price Ford in Simi Valley is open on Saturdays so I called them and was told to bring it over.

ALERT: GOOD SERVICE REPORT FOLLOWS

I dropped the vehicle off and by 3 o’clock in the afternoon it was repaired and I was able to pick it up. The battery was diagnosed as faulty and was replaced with a new one and additional diagnostic checks were run. The total bill was $822, however, the charges were all covered because the vehicle is still under warranty. Color me happy!

I’m very pleased with the quality of the work as the battery installation was very sano. Nothing disturbed in the interior and no scratches or dings either.

I’ve attached a photo of the battery for those of you that are dying to see where it was made (Mexico versus Spain for the original). Battery cost $292.

I wouldn't think the hybrid would require much of a jumper pack. Perhaps the failing 12v battery actually soaked up all it had.

That’s my thinking as well. The jumper pack (which I’ve used before on gas only cars) was fully charged. When I removed it, it was very warm indicating that in in fact, I’ve been drained.

Did you jump it using the jump pins under the hood? Shouldn't take a few seconds to put on pins turn key or push button, then remove jumpers from pins. Did you leave it connected to charge the battery? Battery have internal short?

Good question. Yes- I connected it to the posts under the hood. Turned the key to start and experienced a brief flash of dash lights but no starting sounds. Removed the start pak shortly after.

When we had our 2022 Mav we got to the point where I was jumping the battery often until it was replaced. Oftentimes the voltage was down to the 7.2 level you referenced or even lower, and my battery jumper pack never failed to start the vehicle, even when not fully charged. I suspect it is your jumper pack that was the culprit in not being able to start the vehicle with the old battery.

$822 WOW what a rip off. Would never go there if it was out of warranty unless I had to.
