Hi MTC,

I guess $20 of lumber might have done quite a lot, but I picked these up...
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...weight-bed-mat-possibility.69710/post-1158512
and I had some shower curtain rods, bought ages ago for a project that fizzled, and spare pipe insulation.

The foam mat went in okay with a bit of chopping... decided to line it up with the back of the bed and leave the few inches with the bed bottom tiedowns uncovered. Then some of the trimmings filled in behind the arches.

I have not taped the seams underneath yet, like I was thinking about doing... will see how it sits. It's a closed cell foam so will not sop up water.

Then I got the shower curtain rods in, went for maximum length and compressed them in against the spring. The ends on these ones are quite hard and thus kinda low friction against the bedliner. I'm probably going to have to find some "chair feet" or foam or felt pads to put on the ends. I am thinking they're probably only gonna stop about 30lb bopping around, so really just a grocery fence, not very heavy duty.

Not sure how long it's gonna last, but will see how it does. At the moment, at least offers some shock absorption and cushioning for my knees.

Thanks.

One other benefit, despite being a mid grey and only slightly silvery, it does a heck of a lot to alleviate the "black hole effect" of a bedlinered bed.

Hey, you have one of the nicest Mavs ever built. The build and the color too. The price reflects that so I get why you're shoe-stringing this bed mat. For many of the rest of us, the (pricy) Ford Bed mat is pretty nice. Even has Maverick on it. I was lucky to get the Mav for 25k after the private offer, so I can justify spending some extra on the OEM accessories. I don't even have a spray-in, just a painted bed.

Heh yeah, I jumped on the Canadian Employee pricing like a fat kid on cake, but I had to get one with the tonneau, which stretched the last dime. I was gonna wait a bit and get an Ali Express roller.

I've always used those rods in my trucks to hold things in place and they never have let me down yet.

Upgrades?

$3 worth.

I don't know how widespread these stores are, whether it's a regional thing or what, so I will describe them. We are calling them "bin stores" on account of everything comes in palette sized bins and is spread out in shallow bins on the tables, I think they just sold out of the bins initially. It's some kind of combination of rummage sale and Dutch auction in that through a week, the item price reduces every day. The items coming in the bins are Walmart/Amazon/Costco returns and sometimes overstock. Now a great many of these things are wrong size, didn't like the look of it, ordered the wrong thing, used it once and got my money back, but there are also some faulty returns. Even then, faulty might mean an ignorable scratch, cosmetic crack, or a simple fix.

The price drops something like a third to a half every day until they are cleared out, not sure what they do with the dregs. But then they have restock day and it's all fresh stuff and the price per item starts high again. Some stores are up there for start price, around $40, others like $25... I don't know what kind of stuff you can find for that price since I've only been in them on $10 and below days. However, even on the "cheap" days you are seeing items that were priced at over 100, though what's left of those is pretty niche waiting for right person. Pretty much everything was originally worth about $20 or so I think, since they usually tell the customer to throw it out rather than ship it back for low value. So it's a total crapshoot what you find.

Yesterday I went in one on a $3 day, nothing much good on the tables, though there were a handful of other car parts that might have been $200 worth to someone. Last table there was this large box already open (you're not meant to open boxes, but many are previously opened). So I peek in and flop out this mat lying on top... hey isn't that a Maverick tailgate mat??? I think from the half of it I can see... and I see more mats under it, and by a corner that looks like it's got the cut-outable bits for the front bed tie downs I figure there's a good chance it's a Mav bed mat too. Well this looked good enough to me, I was assuming there were floor mats in the bottom, not that I needed those. So I snatched up the box and paid the price of the day, $3.

So apparently I have a tailgate mat, a bed mat annnnnd... something for a totally different vehicle, SUV maybe, google image search isn't very exact and it might be for a lexus or Kia. Not sure these were super quality mats in the first place, the tailgate one might have been returned for inadequate mounting tape, was thin strip on edge falling off. So I guess I don't really need the tailgate one unless I destroy the piece that matches bedliner from Ford, so that can go in storage until required. The bed mat looks handy though.

I am unsure about installing it full time because this foam is great for "grocery and household sundries" everything I put in there stays put on it and doesn't slide around. Seems a little dumb to install it and then put the foam back on top. I think I am going to swap it in and out for "dirty work" so the foam stays cleaner and not scored and scuffed for household stuff.

I will check if the SUV mat is anywhere close to useful in the back of my Escape PHEV. If it won't fit with trimming, it may get remade into rear seat protector or something, or supply bits for wheel arch filling etc.
