I have 15K miles on my 22 xlt fx4 and the brakes sound destroyed.
I called the dealer and they said a TSB is present stating the components used in the brake pads will corrode if it is left out side when parked?????
They had no resolution other than a 39.00 brake inspection and 800 per axle to replace the pads.
I am not to sure about keeping this truck anymore.
Any input would be helpful prior to dropping it off on 12/12.
Thank you
Drop it off where on 12-12? And if this is Ford's policy that is pretty poor.not everyone has a garage.and almost 1700 dollars for brakes is also ridiculous. My 2010 ram has the original rear brakes at 40,000 Miles. If the mavericks are wearing out at 15 k something is not right.

Always good to find an alternative to the Ford Stealer dealer.

Hybrid brake pads last a long time I've had a 2008 Prius with 137,000 miles on t and the original pads that were at 50% when I traded it, the 2013 V had 108,000 when the Maverick came in, the shop looked at the pads and asked when the last brake job was, he was astounded when I told they were original, so you're driving to fast and stopping too short.

Life is an adventure, not a race.
That's an assumption of ones driving methods and these brakes are known to have issues. Yours clearly don't (yet?) so congratulations, but I don't know how you can safely come to the conclusion someone is driving to fast and shopping too short (braking hard?) at all. There are more than a few reports of brake pad/rotor issues across the platforms the Maverick shares.

Also, some peoples idea of adventure - is racing! 😲

I have never replaced a rotor over the years and have put new pads on grooved rotors without a problem. Ford is working on solutions to improve braking probs. https://www.uwindsor.ca/dailynews/2022-09-01/researcher-teams-ford-build-better-brake-rotor

I have to laugh at the 800 per axle. When I worked at dealer brake jobs were called Gravy work. Paid a lot.

Drive like a nut like my bother he wears his out fast too. Lucky he only drives 5 k a year . They offer better alloy rotors after market that wont rust as much. I would go that route. if you cant do it yourself find someone who can and use good rotors from Rock Auto.

Have to chuckle about 800.

Yeah I’ll echo the other comments, we need photos of all four sets brake rotors, even with the wheels still on, otherwise we are all just speculating.
Interior and exterior sides if possible.

But here’s my speculations anyway: :)
1- the brakes are noisy when cold and wet, but goes away after driving a hundred feet (they can be loud and grabby)
2- surface rust that goes away after a few brake pedal applications
3- there is some debris caught under one brake pad
4- defective brake pad
5- OP has been racing, drag or auto-cross (even a heavy footed driver is unlikely to burn through pads this quickly)

. . .
Replacing pads is a 20 minute job per wheel, with the pads costing about $25 per wheel. The Ford environmentally-friendly pads are hygroscopic and grab when cold in high humidity or rain, so you may want to use aftermarket parts instead. Nobody resurface rotors anymore, as replacements are cheaper. If the rotor needs replacing, that's another $55 and 25 minutes, allowing for the extra time to grease and install the new bearings. Better rotors go for about 50% more from aftermarket. Call it anywhere from $300 to $800 for the total job cost including waterproof grease, new cotter pins, etc, depending on what needs replacing and whether you want to use the better non-Ford parts. If they are just charging you $800 up front, find a more honest dealer.

I have 240K on my 93 Yota P/U and still has factory rear shoes on it and 50% lining left. Have replaced front pad's twice. I did drive for a living and do not abuse my stuff.

Your showing your age. Bearing and repacking of bearings (grease) isn't done on new cars. No cotter pins. But it brought back memories of old car brakes. Like my 1976 Pontiac Trans am. Yep repack wheal bearings install new cotter pins.

But yea 800 is crazy high. Even at the dealer seems way high. But then again what is current labor rate per hour now?

Checked Rock Auto: Rotor best they sell 60 a piece. Pads 55 for set on front which come with all new clips . OP would need new rotors as he said rust. Other than some good brake grease for calipers which probably come with high end pads. that is it for parts.

I bet dealer still might turns rotors but maybe not, not really sure. Any present dealer mechanics here? . I bet they still have those ammco lathes.

I did, that's why I posted what I did, y'all "Hot Doggies" blow past me like I'm chained to the lamp post but when I coast into the traffic light just as it's turned green there you are in front of me, yeah you got there first but I'll see you at the next light same thing I'm not mashing the brakes, just using engine braking and recharging the battery, yes your driving habits SUCK!
