I have a question for anyone running a 12v refrigerator connected directly to 12v without a power station.

Does your fridge turn on/off automatically with the 12v coming from the car without having to press the power button every time on the fridge?

I'm not sure how anyone could answer that for you without knowing what fridge it is. If it's a hard on/off button I suppose it would just start right up when you supply power. If it's a soft on/off button maybe not.
I was looking at which models people had experience with. I have not seen any of the 12v fridges with a physical power switch, all the ones I've seen have momentary power buttons. I've never owned a 12v refrigerator so I have no personal experience with them.

ah - gotcha. I don't have one so I can't help you there. I would just start looking. If the switch looks like a physical toggle switch versus a button you are probably good to go.

for instance - this one looks like it's a hard on/off switch such that if you left it in the "cool" position it would just start up when you supplied power.

I have never seen one with a rocker switch so it's not really an option.

based on my limited research a lot of these fridges turn on when you supply power so that if power is temporarily interrupted all of your food doesn't go bad.

best thing I can say is find one you likes the look of and see if you can download the manual or specifically search about that model.

It's possible some folks here list models that might work for you:

Sorry, I looking for a compressor refrigerator.
You'd probably have better luck in an RV forum. I can tell you my RV's 12v fridge's power switch will stay in the position it's set at regardless of whether the supply voltage is on or off, but since it isn't portable it won't help you.

Negative. Fridge stays off because when the engine cranks, the voltage from the 12v outlet momentarily drops below the low voltage threshold for the fridge, so the fridge errors out and needs to be power cycled before it'll turn back on.

Since you have a hybrid, I don't foresee that you'd have the same problem. As for myself, I just plug the fridge into a small power station that is plugged into the vehicle's 12v outlet. Power station charges when the vehicle runs, and provides uninterrupted power while the vehicle is off or starting.

Thanks that's what I figured... I have a power station but wanted to see what my options were.

Well just to clarify, since you have a hybrid, you probably could use the fridge plugged in directly to the 12v outlet without issue (other than obviously having no power when the vehicle is off) since the 12v battery voltage stays more stable in a hybrid since it's charged by the HVB.

Mine has a touch button to turn it on/off, but it works just like any regular fridge with a compressor. It comes with a 12V cable and a 110v adapter. I added a 12V cigarette port to the bed of the truck. Bear in mind that the truck powers that accesories circuit for about 30 minutes after you turn it off.

I'm guessing you're referring to one of these thermoelectric tiny fridges you can buy on Amazon. I've never seen one with a thermostat, although they're pretty cheap. There is a thermostat on the heat side usually to keep it going under 160 so it doesn't burn up when keeping food hot. On cool, it pretty much keeps things like 40° below. Ambient. So basically it just runs non-stop. So if the car is 70 inside then you're going to be within refrigeration limits. Of course, if the car is 40°. Your stuff is probably going to freeze inside it.
