Another low battery voltage thread. Sorry. Auto stop start stopped working, looked at the menu on the instrument cluster and it said something like charging system charging battery. Started reading about this on this forum and I now see it is very common problem. Some say it is caused by Ford Pass, some say it is caused by updates being done the center display screen system, some say it is a bad battery, some say it is a loose cable, some say it is a battery management system issue. I have a 1999 and 2000 Mercury Mountaineer (each with 230K+ miles) and their charging system always leaves my battery with 12.6 volts.

Measured my Maverick 2.0 Ecoboost with 235 miles (at rest after sitting all night after driving 1 hour highway driving) and got 11.7 volts. That is right 11.7 volts!

Come on Ford, this is really not what I was expecting but I guess us DIYers will have to figure this one out as well.

On a charger now, will fully charge, reset BMS, Auto stop start will probably start working again, only to fail again with low voltage after another 235 miles.

It could be worse of course, some members are reporting failure to start. I guess for now I will just have to recharge my battery every 235 miles.

FOMOCO, hello?

Your battery needs to be changed. That fixed the auto start stop issues for me.

Resetting the BMS won't do much. Even when you take it into the dealer, I believe that's their first troubleshooting test too.

I am setting up an appointment as well. It seems many / most that have taken it to a dealer get head scratching by the service dept and get no resolution so I am not holding my breath. One poster just suggested replacing the battery on their own dime. I am not there yet.

FOMOCO, hello?
I am baffled by posts like this. Why would you have to fix it or figure it out yourself? Pickup the phone, call a Ford service department and get it in.

If you read the dozens of the others who have had this issue, the majority get no resolution from the dealer. I have an appoint with them, in May if that helps you.

Well get back to me after the dealer has had their crack at it. I think what happens often (not every case obviously) is that many of you live in small towns. And with that comes a lack of talent at the dealer level. This kind of thing is not hard to figure out. If the dealer detects a problem, but has no solution due to their poor diagnostic skills, then they need to open a tech case with Ford to help get the resolution. Part of what is so annoying at times about these forums is that for the same symptom 9 owners will post 9 different opinions on what the failure is, instead of getting dealer resolution.

I'll be sure to "get back to you". Why does this forum annoy you, get back with me on that after you talk with a professional about a forum annoying you. I think too often people get annoyed with forums because they have their head so far up their ***. Have a nice day!
Don't be so fuckin sensitive. People come on here and post as much nonsense as they do good information. Which makes it very difficult for people looking for helpful information. I am sure you are venting to a large degree, and I get that having an issue on a brand new vehicle. But all your word salad about DIY and FOMOCO and blah blah is all useless considering your truck has been to the dealer zero times for resolution.

Disagree with the sentiment here. If an online forum of vehicle owners, some having theirs for over a year, has a quick and easy fix for what could be an easy issue, like "hey, pull the fuse #14 and put it back in" or "disconnect the battery and reset the computer and it'll work fine", why waste all that time and aggravation taking it in for service? This is what the internet is made for, my friend. Finding an answer and not having to pay for it (money or time). I had a noise in my 2004 Navigator when accelerating, my local shop said it's the timing belt and said $1500-$2000, I went on online forums and found that it was the AWD relay, which cost me $28 shipped from eBay and about 10 minutes of my time.

I myself will take 9 different opinions, one of which might do the trick, rather than all that warranty crap.

In general I understand what you are saying and why. Specific to this instance, the OP does not appear to be seeking advice at all. He is clearly well read on others' similar issue. I just get exhausted with all of the incessant complaining on here. It seems to have tapered some. But, seriously there are many people here who need some lessons in perspective. I mean, thank god he is here complaining about a low battery on his brand new vehicle and not the fact that he can't put food on his table.

It's called "premature complaining." It's where someone talks about how the dealer can't fix a problem before they give them a chance to even look at it.

I've seen it more than once on this forum.

You know what else makes it very difficult for people looking for helpful information? Hecklers talking about word salads and complaining about complaints. Some of you who do this look like sycophant fanbois

I purchased a Diehard battery and replaced it myself, why? Because I knew it would take days to get an appointment, then my truck would sit at the dealership for a week while 3 guys named Ernie making $17 an hour tried to troubleshoot the issue, then someone would slam their door into my fender leaving me a nice dent, and then a week later I would get my truck back (best case) with grease tracked in it with another questionable Motorcraft battery with unknown date code that came from who knows where (and may have come out of someone else’s Maverick with the same issue). Then if it failed again, I would have zero confidence in the repair or replacement battery.

It was far, far less painful to spend the $200 for a fresh date coded (non Motorcraft) replacement battery, know it was installed properly, then go from there if further troubleshooting was needed.

I’m now on day 24 of the new battery and my Hybrid appears to be fixed...

Is this poor service experience that you have had only from Ford dealers or also from other makes?

Multiple OEMs over 52 years of ownership and driving. Most have been positive, many have not been......

In my case, it was a simple battery swap and with the many know issues with Motorcraft batteries in the last few years, I did not want to potentially re-introduce a questionable replacement battery into the equation. Simply my choice and I'm 1000% fine with it. (y)

OP, you've only driven 235 miles since your posted delivery thread on Feb 11th? That may be part of the issue especially if Pass is enabled or some of the electronic items listed on your Feb 22 one step at a time thread were installed.
There's a lot more battery draining electronics going on in your Maverick than your 20yo Mercury.
