So you want to buy a BYD pick up (I do too).
You get it home. At some point It needs service beyond a flat tire., what do you do. You own a 2 ton brick.

If Chinese auto manufacturers are ever allowed to sell into the US, it'll be the last nail in the coffin for Western manufacturing...

Was at a party last weekend where I commented to “one” person about her BYD…. Then it became a forum about BYD nightmares from 6 people. Zero happiness! Maybe they’ll improve but these friends all want my Mav LOL. Nobody that I know has the Shark yet. Three friends own Changan Hunters.
As far as the Rampage… I took a photo and posted the back of the truck a while ago. It was very new and although it had a nice split door tailgate, it was not aligned. Along with the Chevy Montana, all 3 US carmakers have the mini-truck “look” available outside the USA.

It would only be an option for me if I move to Mexico.

It would be subject to import duties or tariffs. Unless they built a factory in the US.

Ford builds trucks, period.

Dodge bought out Jeep and butchered a famous name brand. They also buy Electronics from Fiat.

I guess I live in an inverted world.
I have lots of compact truck choices yet put a Maverick on a boat to get it here. N.A. Folks want the trucks that are not popular here. That may just be desiring some choices.
The Maverick was the one we “couldn’t” get here until May 1st. And stopped orders by May 3rd.
So good news, bad news for me from 2 Mavs when it got here and already seen 5 last week. So babytruck wont be famous anymore but spare parts should be arriving too. I deserve a commission!

About time we got some competition. RAM has far better interiors, so maybe Ford will have to step up and stop using playskool plastic and the worst seat cushioning since their 90s buckets.
Just checked it out. Nice looking truck. 4x4 is nice. You’re not towing anything with it though.
It's not 4x4, it is AWD. Jeep's "4x4" on anything but the wrangler platform or the grand Wagoneer is clutch based AWD.

And it can tow over 5,000 lbs with the diesel, 4,000 with the gasser. So.........if the maverick can tow, why cant this?

I’m seeing conflicting information so who knows what is correct. When I posted that I read that the diesel tow cap was 3300lbs and the gas was under 2000.

The info in the Dodge website sure seems like it’s an actual 4x4.

In Brazil the Rampage is rated for 2,000kg, which was incorrectly labeled as pounds when TFL talked about it and everyone else parroted. That is 4,400 lbs.

It's not that surprising, the Jeep Renegade built on the same platform could tow 2,000 lbs, with its smaller 1.4LT engine and its super tiny wheelbase.

The info in the Dodge website sure seems like it’s an actual 4x4.

The fact it talks about "intelligent" 4x4 and distributing torque between axles should have been the first warning light that this is, in fact, not 4x4.

Like I said, any JCDR using the ZF 9 speed is AWD, not 4x4. Proper 4x4 requires a proper 50:50 transfer case, and outside the fiat panda 4x4, no transverse mounted vehicle has ever offered that.

I admit that I was a little hesitant to buy a Ford (and it's still way too early to say how that went), but if there's ONE company whose products I'm even less inclined to buy, it's Stellantis.

But hey, competition should only benefit the consumer.

Pretty much my thoughts. "Cool, another small truck on the market. Anyway...". Wake me up when Toyota releases a small truck, then the Maverick might be in trouble. I could see the Dakota selling decently well but the Rampage ain't going to overcome to Maverick. I'd bet dollars to donuts on that.

Fair enough. The language around that was suspect for sure.

I use to agree with you. New Toyota trucks ironically are struggling with reliability issues. They have had a lot of build quality/turbo issues with the new tundra and taco. Happy with my Mav even though it has had its fair share of recalls, hasn’t left me stranded.
