“Cannot detect key message”

Recently when I attempt to start my Maverick I get a message “cannot detect key” which requires opening the center console and placing the key fob on the bottom of the console on top of the key fob symbol. I replaced the battery in the key fob but still intermittently get this message when attempting to start.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and what is the solution?

I had the same issue the other day. Ran into the grocery store came back out started up and got that message. I was able to start up and drive just like normal though. Happened twice, haven’t seen it happen anymore since .

I had that on my 2017 F150 a few times. I mentioned it to a friend, and he had the same. He talked to his dealer who asked him if he was at a Kwik Star convenience store when it occurred. He was. So was I. I think there are some electronic devices that can interfere, probably creating noise on whatever frequency the fob uses. May not apply in your situation

Fob needs a new battery!!!!, I guess if you have a 2022?
Maybe you have something in pocket (coins, keys?) blocking signal.

Wife 2017 Escape recently did similar. Changed battery, lucky I had one from last time happened, came in 2 pack. Last time no display, battery was completely dead.
