  1. Odd result from a wreck (totaled) today: steering wheel column detached in my hand!

Looks like steering columns are designed with frontal impacts in mind, driver being thrown forward, airbag deployment or steering mechanism pushed back into the passenger area. If the driver braces for a rear impact and pulls on the wheel as the vehicle is hit maybe this is what happens -...
  2. Just sold the Maverick to Carmax.

Mk1 Focus, best car I've owned, manual trans even had manual windows, most comfortable seats, 6 - 8 hour drives no problem. Didn't like the new Focus went Mazda instead. Haven't got my Maverick yet but think I'll be tempted to do the same thing!
  3. Odd result from a wreck (totaled) today: steering wheel column detached in my hand!

Sorry to hear, hope you are not suffering any after effects. Looks like the 'unibody' did it's job of absorbing the impact and hopefully the seat and headrest minimized any 'whiplash' issues, some vehicles have reactive headrests - don't know if the Maverick has. I noticed on one of the video's...
  4. Dissapointing MPG for Hybrid at 85MPH

I think at that speed (average for the I-40) it's not a hybrid, it's an ICE powered vehicle weighing nearly 4000 lbs and shaped like a brick! 36.5 MPG - not bad!

  6. Santa Cruz?

The first Santa Cruz I have seen is parked in our neighborhood, I walk past it every day. Odd looking vehicle, proportions look all wrong, looks like they used the rear doors off a sedan and fashioned the 'C' pillar/buttress around it! The grill is hideous, I guess Toyota started the trend...
  7. Easiest way to disconnect the wire to the power tailgate lock?

Owners Manual has instructions for removing the tailgate: 1. Unlatch the tailgate. 2. Disconnect the power door locks in-line connector located under the pickup box on the right-hand side of the vehicle near the spare tire. 3. Install the protective cap on the end of the in-line connector that...

  9. Maverick Mascot?

I have an 'Earl', he's traveled a lot with me!

At my age it's 'Hello darkness my old friend - I stood up too fast again'.
  12. 12VDC power available under hood?

Don't connect anything directly to the 12V battery - doing so bypasses the Battery Monitoring Sensor and confuses the system.
  13. Call me old fashioned. Silver wheels on a silver Maverick.

Looks good, certainly better than the 'machined face' things that come on the Lariat.
  14. Now in Production, Finally........

Me to! Ordered 11/1/2021, same scheduled build week, I'm in NW AZ - let's see who gets their Maverick first(y).
  15. Exhaust Mesh Thing

Learned something today - Thank You
  16. Accidentally bumped the shifter dial to REVERSE at 70MPH!!!

Accidentally discovered that I can 'preselect' reverse on my EcoSport (6-speed auto) while going forward - nothing happens, except the rear camera comes on and reverse engages when I stop and back into my driveway 🙄 .
  17. Is it a truck, a car, or some combination thereof????

I had a couple of El Caminos back in the '70s - the criticism was always 'it's a lousy car and a lousy truck'. My thought was 'it's a better car than a truck is and a better truck than a car is'.
