Have you checked the positive cable end at the fuse box where they fail to confirm it has failed? Seeing the space you have to work with to crimp a new termination might be useful before buying any tools as well. IIRC it was really tight when I checked mine.
Cheers.
Good call. My RR ABS sensor wire chafed through where the corrugated sleeve ended, a sharp edge was left during manufacturing. The harness was firmly located on the vehicle frame, on either side of the break, so not a lot of movement, but it still wore through. I fear this type of issue will...
If you can find someone you trust to do a decent job crimping a new end on the positive cable that would be my choice. The Ford cable "overlay" repair was a bit of a bodge (at my dealer anyway), I wouldn't pay an arm and a leg to have it done.
Cheers.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Obviously not worth the minor mileage increase on the impacted vehicle, but if it allows the manufacturer to sell high profit fuel hogs since it meets CAFE ratings overall it likely does. My son's new(ish) Corolla software goes to great lengths to save...
Better to use Forscan even if it will go into service mode normally. Mine went in with the standard method, but wouldn't come out. Could have been a PITA without having Forscan.
Cheers.
This!
Kudos to your efforts to dispel what are almost certainly incorrect assumptions regarding this SSM. Keep up the good work, hopefully it will save some from chasing a dead end.
Owners are, understandably, looking for a "fix" for their withering batteries, and equating this software...
The brake service mode issue with the early hybrids has been touched on in previous threads, but I felt it worthwhile to post my experience to help prevent potential headaches for others doing their own maintenance.
My early 22 hybrid has been inconsistent with this mode. Once it went into...
I believe SSM 53801 was brought out to address an intermittent battery drain issue, not the ongoing deep sleep concerns a lot of owner's have. It seems two separate conditions are at play. When the intermittent fault happens it kills the battery (3v) dead overnight, to the point a smart...

Warranty is up on my 22, the dealer will do the ACCM software update for 1/2 hour labor. Just been holding off while the bricking issue is sorted out.
Cheers.
Unbelievable situation, feel for you.
Ford knows there is a concern with this update, but are continuing to allow dealers to apply it, then leaving owners on the hook if it goes south.
Cheers.
Apologies for digging up an old thread. Did you find a resolution for this issue Michael? I'm running into the exact same issue.
Any advice from the Forscan experts would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Edit: Me not bright . Key was in acc., not run. All good now.
Super appreciate the advice Darryl! Mine was in this morning to have the ACCM updated, along with some outstanding recall software. Out of warranty, so had the service advisor cancel the update just in time.
Cheers.
Was speaking to a service advisor yesterday on a different subject, he mentioned off hand that they had a Maverick with a parking brake fault, and it was difficult to diagnose. Apparently the issue was in the wiring harness at the firewall.
Hopefully yours is sorted soon.
Cheers.
Had the same thing in Dec. '23, only happened once. Charged battery, it was fine until I changed it preemptively months later. This should be the fix though:
