My dealer in California is stating that they have to etch the cat per California SB55 and will add $100 to the deal. Is this something I can or should deny?

I think you can decline the etching. My dealer in California is stating that they have to etch the cat per California SB55 and will add $100 to the deal. Is this something I can or should deny?
My dealer is at around $200 per hour labor. Is half hour labor fair? That’s what I was thinking. Is $100 a fair price if I wanted them to do the etching or should I do it myself?
What dealer is this? $100 feels a bit steep for that. I wouldn't be surprised if manufactures started stamping them in the factory like regular vin plates. My dealer in California is stating that they have to etch the cat per California SB55 and will add $100 to the deal. Is this something I can or should deny?
you should check your city if they’re doing it for free. I live in LB,CA and they do it yearly for free.My dealer in California is stating that they have to etch the cat per California SB55 and will add $100 to the deal. Is this something I can or should deny?
catalytic and tailgate stealing is big thing right now beside car theft lol.I thought living in NY was hard, you Cali people have it even rougher.
Not fair at all. That’s what I was thinking. Is $100 a fair price if I wanted them to do the etching or should I do it myself?
The main reason it makes sense is that if they do catch the perps, they can prove the cat was stolen And prosecute.. I discovered one morning that I was living across the road from a rural chop shop. They ended up not prosecuting because they couldn’t trace anything back to the stolen vehicles.WHY SHOULD YOU PAY TO HAVE THEM COMPLY WITH THAT LAW THAT ONLY EXISTS IN CALIFORNIA and targets them to comply, not you, the consumer..... Would not a stolen cat be covered by your comp insurance- and comp insurance is available with $0-$25-$50-$100 deductible..If it gets stolen you still have to pay to replace it as it may not turn up at a chop shop maybe for a year if ever. DUH!!! The dealer won't cover theft or recovery..
Here in Kansas no such law..However the Wichita, Kansas (largest City in Kansas) Police will mark your cat for FREE...and you don't have to be a resident.. Don't believe me??? READ This...
