Supply cut by OPEC. Demand increased by coming out of a pandemic. Why is Ford increasing the price of Maverick?
The reasons why supply is low aren't mutually exclusive. There are many factors, a handful of which were unequivocally (negatively) influenced by decisions made by our president.

Honestly my goal is for this to be my last internal combustion vehicle (I expect to own it for at least ten years like my current vehicle). I'd go electric, but I live in an apartment -- so the current charging infrastructure just isn't there yet for it to be worthwhile.

Gas is just getting more expensive, and it's going to keep going up, and Maverick is literally the most affordable hybrid on the market. Combined with my needing a larger vehicle than I currently have for the events I end up hauling stuff to anyway, it's kind of the perfect vehicle at the perfect time for me.

I'm just hoping Ford can get me mine before convention season in the spring.

I am coming from a small hatchback with 155k miles. It needs a few things to get its mpg back up... but right now I am getting the same real world numbers EBs seem to pull off per posts/videos.

Now Ill have slightly more space inside the truck and a bed instead of a hatch. Just because I can move X thing with the hatch doesn't mean I want said thing in the car.. so hooray bed! and hooray not having to drive a beast to do it.

On the horsepower side of things. Yes, "need" the 250hp. Why.. didn't want anything slower than the hatch I drive now.

Absolutely MPG an important part for me, same level as being a truck. Needed/wanted a truck, currently driving a '15 Prius (from '07 BMW) and SAVED some big money on gas. The Maverick gives me both....

Great gas mileage in a small truck that costs less and offers certain practical advantages over a hybrid compact crossover. Having said that, I do wish it was 250 hp. My CR-V has 180 hp and I wish it had more power for expressway entrance ramps. But I realize a more powerful hybrid setup would probably take a hit on gas mileage so I can live with it.

Basically trading my Fusion Energi PHEV for one of these. I lose 20 miles of full EV range but gain WAY more utility, and gas efficiency is still better to the point where its a wash. Plus I have 3d printer and this truck is the ultimate tinker toy.

I can break it down into three questions:

Why a small truck? -- I occasionally need to haul stuff (like my daughter's motorcycle) that won't fit or are too nasty to haul inside an SUV. But I don't want the additional hassle that comes with driving and parking a really large vehicle.

Why a hybrid? -- Mileage mainly. Ability to stop for a short while and keep the AC running without idling the engine. Quiet take-off when I leave the house really early. Usual stuff.

Why a Maverick hybrid? -- It's the only small truck/hybrid game in town.

My needs appear to be different from other posters. I need a vehicle to pull behind my motorhome. The Maverick hybrid can be towed with all wheels down with minimal effort to set-up for towing. It is lightweight so it will not exceed the 5K weight limit of my motorhome hitch. The bonus is excellent mpg. My other vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, is all-wheel drive and cannot be towed.

[Gas] prices nearly twice what they were a year ago.
This fall (where I live) prices are about 1.5x what they were last year at this time. Which means they are a little less than they were in the fall of 2008 and a little more than they were in the fall of 2014. And quite a bit more than they were at other times in the price cycles.

But I'm basing my purchase of a hybrid on current gas prices, not a fear of a huge and lasting future increase. I'll save enough, even at current prices, and I'll burn less fuel.

Plus, I'm optimistic that the world will get back on its feet. And I'm old enough to have seen many predictions of doom come and go.

My thinking was, if I want fwd anyways, and don't have a need to tow > 2k lbs, it didn't make sense to pay more money for worse fuel millage, and probably worse reliability in exchange for more hp.

If the ecoboost was cheaper than the hybrid I would've had a really tough choice to make.

The 2.5L Atkinson engine has been used for a long time and proven reliable when used in a hybrid system, certainly more so than the ecoboost. I'd also bet on the eCVT being more reliable than the 8-speed auto. Hybrids in general have shown to be pretty reliable and requiring of less maintenance overall than normal gas vehicles.
How so? More than 2/3 the hp comes from the gas engine.

I, like many others on the thread have said, commute 100 miles a day for work. The Maverick hybrid allows me to get rid of my commuter car and weekend beater truck for house renovation work.
