I am a retired home builder and had a 2005 F150 Lariat that got 17 mpg (in 16 years I never towed anything). I used it for the occasional small load of building materials but mostly to get my surfboard, SUP or Kayak to and from the beach/lake. I’ve been waiting on a small 35 mpg pickup for 25 years. It’s finally been invented and I’m looking forward to the versatility with the mpg. My build date was just moved to the week of December 20th per my sales rep. No email from Ford.

100% for the mileage. If I needed more power, I'd buy something else. JMPO, but even the Maverick with the 2.0L eco boost is not a real work truck. Then again, even if I were in the market for a work truck, Id be looking for something which was bigger / more heavy duty, but still a hybrid, and hopefully in a few more years, all electric.
BTW, here in Cali, gas is hovering around $4.50 > at what is typically our cheapest time of the year for gas ! I totally expect $6 a gal next Summer !

Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
Looked at Gas maverick yesterday at dealer lot Est MPG 26 Hybrid maverick Estimated MPG 42

This is the second cheapest gas in my area. I originally was looking at the hybrid, but didn't want to wait and I hate FWD. The EB is still getting twice the mileage of my Tundra.

Some seem upset I asked. I really was just curious as why so many want a hybrid.
Not upset at all myself, just stated my reasons for the hybrid. Everyone's needs are different and what works best for one person may not work for the next. I'm tired of people being so agitated because others have a different view on things.

I guess why question is why are you not interested in the Hybrid? Need to tow a lot? Have a really short commute?

I drive a Prius v right now that I use as a truck pretty often (bought 600lbs of landscape pavers yesterday). Now I can get an actual truck for a lowish price ($30k for my Lariat Lux order) that gets almost the exact same MPGs as my current car and is it turns out to be A LOT QUICKER. (0-60 in the 7s versus the 11s).

I need the EPA to update their website and get the hybrid Mav listed.

The hybrid can be flat towed. I was looking for a flat tow to pull behind my RV. I didnt want to tow my 2003 F150 (now sold). I looked at Jeeps crazy expensive and the new broncos. 1-2 year wait. as a bonus I get a gas miser still gets up and moves fast enough. It can tow my Sea-doos and fits 4 golfers with bags.

It is the cheapest hybrid you can purchase. Some $6k less than the Escape in Ford's own line up.

The Hybrid drivetrain still pulls 0-60 in 7.5 seconds so it's still a stout set up.

It's a swiss army knife - total value propisition. 37 combined mpg. 1500 lb payload capacity. $23k.

Well, why the interest? Local gas stations are $3.53-$3.59/gallon.
If you own a current gen Ranger and want the advertised hp, you need 93 octane. Around here that sets you back $4.10/gallon. OUCH.

Its a better vehicle. Better drive, reliability, less brake changes, fuel exhonomy. Fuel prices are only going up. EV vehicles will be a good chunk of sales by 2028. If ford brings out an EV maverick within 5 years I will trade in. If I needed towing I would have purchased a ranger. They hybrid power train and price are why I purchased.
I keep reading here that the hybrid will be "more reliable."
Honestly I do not understand that...the vehicle will not even be sold until December....though I certainly wish it well.

I don't need the biggest, baddest, brute on the block. The hybrid Maverick XL is perfectly adequate for my needs. The price is right. This will be the first new vehicle I've purchased in over 20 years. Finally there's something that is a good fit.

The 2.5L Atkinson engine has been used for a long time and proven reliable when used in a hybrid system, certainly more so than the ecoboost. I'd also bet on the eCVT being more reliable than the 8-speed auto. Hybrids in general have shown to be pretty reliable and requiring of less maintenance overall than normal gas vehicles.
